  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The magic formula ?

Modern females have the tendency to take sexy dress as a magic formula for getting their dream husbands. But I think it is plain stupidity.

I believe marriage is a gift from God and we don't need to worry too much about it. But modern females ignore this fact and think differently. The consequences are deplorable.

1) Dressing immodestly reduces men's respect for women. Many women today dress like prostitutes, but no man would have respect for prostitutes.

2) Dressing immodestly helps to create an immoral social environment. It becomes a temptation for men to become immoral. Therefore dressing immodestly can lead a female to deserve divine punishment.

3) When a female dresses immodestly, she becomes a bad example for other females. So when she got married, other females will in turn present themselves as bad temptations for her husband. Immodest dress might help you to get a dream husband, but it also might help creating an immoral environment which becomes a.great temptation for your husband.
(No wonder the more immodest they dress, the higher is the divorce rate)

4) If a man loves a woman only because she dresses immodestly, then what happens when she gets old ?

When a female dresses in a way that she presents a strong temptation or she loses men's
respect, she is going over the moral limit.
Where there is no respect, there is NO love. Dressing immodestly kills respect.
A little bit of sexy is ok, but females today don't know the limit.

You're taking an extreme to make an argument. Not fair. Women have always derived power from their sexuality in one way or another.

I am afraid I disagree with you. In the past, they attracted men in a way which was within reasonable moral boundary. But now they are going over the limit.
Whenever a female is dressed in a way that she presents a strong temptation, she is going over limit.
Whenever a female is dressed in a way that she loses other men's respect, she is going over limit.

Hollywood and the secular mass media couldn't agree more with your attitude. They would certainly applaud you.

You could always join the Amish where color and style went out with the bath water, or you could protest as do eastern religions, or you could simply relax and enjoy the view.

And the view from where I'm sitting is widely conservative and they know more about modesty than you give them credit. They know when they are crossing the line and there is nothing wrong with adding a little color and style to this work-away, olive drab world.

It IS frustrating that many people today believe that there is nothing wrong with wearing next to nothing.

I always dressed classy, even before becoming a Christian. My belief was (and still is) that what ATTRACT a man is what KEEPS him, and therefore I presented myself as conservative and intelligent. Anyone looking for anything else stayed away, and that was fine.

I ended up marrying a man who fell in love with my mind long before I even decided to date him, and he is everything I could have asked for. I thank God for him every day of my life.

And yes, at least in this particular area, there are many "Conservative Christians" who are somewhat liberal.

You know, I'm inclined to agree with you, that modesty is lacking in so many women in this day and time.

At the same time, though, your post doesn't sound like helpful in a loving way. It sounds like you are out to judge immodest women.

Please note that I'm not saying you're judgmental because I don't know if you are; I only said it SOUNDS like you are.

Ok, to get away from all the words like "modesty" etc lets pick a practical topic. How about the neckline of a pretty dress--too low is immodest, lusty, sinful. All the way up a bit prudish. In the middle it presents femininity, beauty, and taste.

I would venture that most women know where that line should be. I see no problem with a gal being desirable; her sexuality is not a sinful thing to me. But I have seen young women, chest exposed, tattoo galore and it disgusts me.

When a woman is dressing immodestly and it causes men to sin, divine punishment is waiting for her. The more men she causes to sin, the more grave will be the punishment.
Yes, because we know that it's ALWAYS the woman's fault.

Newsflash: A man has a CHOICE when it comes to sin. Or are you saying you are to weak to overcome?

Your title of this thread “The magic formula” is suspect from the Get-Go as to your preconceived intentions. Many Christians associate the word magic with the deceptive nature of the enemy. Why you chose such a title for this thread brings into question your deceptive finger-pointing.

I am shocked by the responses in this so called conservative Christians forum. The members are all liberal-minded. If conservative Christians also think dressing immodestly is OK, no wonder the world is so immoral today. I am very disappointed...
So, after two male responses from iambren and one male response from tobethebest you concluded that the members of this forum represent “are all liberal-minded.”

No wonder Protestant Christians have been criticized as being "SELECTIVE in what to believe and what not to believe". In other words, choosing doctrines to believe based on one's taste. Now I realize it is a fair criticism.
However, your hasty conclusion didn’t take into account the two modest conservative female replies by Motherprayer and sootylashes. Seems like your hasty conclusion should be closer to 50% than “all” members that visit this forum.

When a woman is dressing immodestly and it causes men to sin, divine punishment is waiting for her. The more men she causes to sin, the more grave will be the punishment.
Your post may have merit, but your replies have the accusatory tone of a trap triggered in haste to prove your misconception being … “The members are all liberal-minded.”

Now, standingtall with Motherprayer and sootylashes changes your inaccurate and hasty assessment of 100% being liberal-minded to now 60% being conservative-minded.

John 8:6-11 (NIV84)
6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.
7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."
8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.
10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"
11 "No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

Exactly. Seems to me like anyone not wanting to take personal accountability for their actions/sins (that's YOU GutenbergPrintPress1454) is the liberal-minded one.

The kindness in this forum is overbearing. Obviously he can see that he was incorrect in his assertion, there is no need to rub salt in the wound of a few misplaced phrase. I recall a Bible verse that says we should build each other (Christians) up, instead of tearing each other down. If you want to argue with someone, go have a debate with a naturalist in some atheist forum.

Really? Where does he state that he is incorrect?

Tell that to GutenbergPrintPress1454. It doesn't look to me like he started this thread with the purpose of "building us up".
