I'm not totally convinced by this argument. Nowhere is explicitly stated that the first day of the week is the Lord's Day, though that is probably what it refers to. However it could refer to the Sabbath, the day that God set aside for himself: The Lord's Day.

Revelation 1:10 that mentions the Lord's day mentions in context within that same chapter about how Christ lives forever more (See: Revelation 1:18).

A Wednesday crucifixion and a Saturday resurrection is the only model that works with 3 days and 3 nights and Christ's tomb being empty already early in the morning when it was dark. Just do the math of 72 hours.

The witnesses on the road to Emmaus prove your "math" wrong...

Hebrews 4.

Hebrews 4 is not referring to the Saturday Sabbath, but it is referring to laboring to enter into the rest of Christ Jesus. Jesus is our Sabbath rest.

Verse 11 refers to how we need to labor to enter into this rest otherwise (lest) that person will fall away by the same example of unbelief.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16).

Jesus says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Jesus is our Sabbath rest. It is not the Sabbath day anymore.

No offense, but this timeline does not compute. You say that the day after Christ's sacrifice was the 7th day of the week or the Saturday Sabbath. This would mean you believe in the false traditional view that Jesus died on a Friday.

Do the math. Jesus died on the 9th hour
(Which is another way of saying 3:00 PM).
72 hours (or 3 days and 3 nights) from Friday at 3:00 PM would be Monday at 3:00 PM, and not Sunday early morning (while it was dark). That would not even be three days and three nights.

Let's look at your timeline:

Friday - Daylight ½th of a day (Death on the cross).
Friday - Night #1 (Jewish Saturday begins at sunset).
Saturday - Full Day #1.
Saturday - Night #2 (Jewish Sunday begins at sunset).
Sunday - Early morning (at night time) (No count #) (Risen?)

Your Total: = 1 Day and ½th, and 2 nights.
This is not 3 days and 3 nights.
So your Math is off, my friend.
No it works out perfectly, but you have a misunderstanding, and if you would like to discuss it, PM me, and I will speak with you there about it, as this thread is more important than this thing.

Hebrews 3-4 (among many others; John 14:15; Exodus 20:6; Isaiah 56:1,8; John 10:16; Isaiah 56:2-7, Acts 4:24, 14:15; Revelation 10:6, 14:6-7, &c).

Hebrews 3-4 is clear.

Hebrews 4:3, "my (God's) rest" and "the works were finished from the foundation of the world", which is a direct reference to Genesis 2:1-3. It even uses the word "finished". God rested the 7th day in Genesis 2:1-3. It is His rest, the 7th day, the sabbath (rest) of the LORD thy God, Exodus 20:8-11.

Hebrews 4:4, "he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works", which "certain place" is Genesis 2:1-3; re-cited in Exodus 20:8-11. The 7th day the sabbath (rest) of the LORD thy God.

Hebrews 4:5, "my (God's) rest)", citing Psalms 95, which is citing Genesis 2:1-3; Exodus 20:8-11, etc. Again, this is the 7th day the sabbath (rest) of God at Creation in Genesis 2:1-3.

Hebrews 4:6, "remaineth", from when? "from the foundation of the world" as per Hebrews 4:3 and thus it is not new, but has been around from the beginning.

Hebrews 4:9, "rest", sabbatismos, literally and truly sabbath keeping in scripture and in all known extant Greek sources, dictionaries, and so on and again "remaineth".

Hebrews 4:10, "his (God's) rest", which is the 7th day the sabbath (rest) of the LORD thy God from Genesis 2:1-3., "as God did from his (works)", which "works were finished from the foundation of the world" as per Hebrews 4:3.

Hebrews 4:11, "that rest" (ie God's rest), the 7th day the sabbath (rest) of the LORD thy God.

P.S., every single reference that uses the word "sabbatismos" in written documents, always refers to the seventh day.

Rev 1:10 uses the feminine term Kuryaki. Literally Sunday in the Greek language. It's illogical to even argue against it.
κυριακη means "Lord", not "Sunday" unless the "Sun" (physical object of creation in the sky, Sol) is your Lord. The word "day" is not translatable from κυριακη either, as the koine Greek requires ημερα to be able to translate that.

I will quote you here, "It's illogical to even argue against it."

“For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.” (Hebrews 4:8).

This is referring to when the preincarnate Christ had gave victory for Joshua so as to take the promise land. But if Jesus gave them rest then, then Jesus would not have later spoken of another day of rest for us. Meaning: He would not have prophesied about His resurrection. For this day of rest would naturally be in the day of His resurrection by which we can take comfort and rest in. Read the conclusion of the chapter. It talks about His mercy and grace. This is only possible by what He has done for us with His death and resurrection.

I can certainly see what your saying in the difference between these days and can say there's nothing wrong with seeing it this way ... but I don't believe the old and new are separate truths to God, instead he builds upon themes that reveal things that have always been, unveiling it in a fashion where in the end they become summed up in one as one; never having been about a day, but what the day reveals.

Rest (whether it is a day or a year, or a year of years) ultimately depicts a truth that can be found (among other forms) in the name on a white stone, which itself like all things is connected with where John found himself on the island of Patmos as it is connected to a third feast one is called up to Jerusalem to keep or to where Adam heard in the garden where the voice of the lord God was walking in. Their types seemingly begin with the first week in Genesis as a day that is a thousand years and in the telling, a day where Adam was but into which he never entered.

For whoever enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His.

Yep, Jesus was quoting His Father about Himself:

Exo_33:14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

Exodus 33-34, context? Ten Commandments, see Exodus 33:12-23, 34:1-9, 20:5-7.

Who here is teaching that is what God said?

No one.
But the question was, "which day is the Lord's day?" My answer is "all of them."
Like I said, people may call the day on which they meet for corporate worship 'the Lord's day' - all days are his days, as far as I see it.

Revelation 1:10 that mentions the Lord's day mentions in context within that same chapter about how Christ lives forever more (See: Revelation 1:18).
That's even vaguer than simply accepting the Lord's Day as the day Jesus rose from the dead. Like I said there is no explicit indication that 'The Lord's Day' refers specifically to Sundays.

You do realize that the Sabbath commandment (courtesy of Exodus 20:8-11) encompasses all 7 days, even all of this creation?

Luke 24 late on Sunday afternoon

20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him. 21 But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened.

That makes Sunday very late in the day "the third day" - which means Friday is the first day, Saturday the second and Sunday the 3rd. It can not work any other way with late on Sunday being "the third day" given that Jesus has been resurrected for most of that day already.

No. Luke 24:21 is not counting the day that they were in.

It appears to us that you are saying that "in spite of the language" in the text - not because of it.

You have free will of course - but it does not make for a compelling argument.

While it is true that explicit assignment can be found in the form "the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD (YHWH)" Ex 20:10

There is no "the first day is the Lord's Day" text.

But we do have this -

1. "the Son of Man is LORD of the Sabbath" Mark 2:28
2. "The Sabbath is the Holy Day of the Lord" Is 58:13

Other than those two I don't know of any other text that tries to assign a specific day of the week to the term

Kuryaki is "Lord's" -- belonging to the Lord. Your suggestion makes it "I was in the Spirit on the Sunday day".. It is never used in the Bible as Sunday or as first day of the week.

  1. belonging to the Lord

  2. related to the Lord
