The Lonely Place
Father, I praise you. You are the King of all.
Should I waste time with pretty words and colorful phrases?
Are you impressed with the rhyme I can write?
Does it matter if I am giving you prose,
or even a sweet story?
What if I am in the desert?
How about on Mt. Zion?
In the valley of death
or the valley so green by a stream?
It is all the same to you.
When I pray to you, you want to hear from my heart.
I am in the lonely place tonight.
Jesus went to His lonely place to pray.
His heart was so longing.
He longed for love.
How lonely?
The loneliness of a newborn separated from its mother.
The separation of heavens from the earth.
Longing to be merged into one.
Yearning to see the meeting of spirits
entwining like vines clinging to one another
giving life and sustenance through giving
endlessly without measure or quantification.
The lonely place Jesus entered.
The color of deep blue.
Velvet in texture and warm
As a womb.
Inspiring to seek,
bringing me to a place of privation
so empty and hungry I anticipate the infilling
of your everlasting love.
Come to this empty well.
Fill me up with the waters of life.
Lean over and look in.
Watch as the clear living liquid forms
a fall of pristine beauty.
Filling a well so empty
so hungry and thirsty
awaiting the infilling of your sweet precious Spirit.
Dont forsake the lonely place.
Come here and from here we can pray.
