I'm not a racist (contrary the opinion of many here) but I am superior to most people in many ways. For example, when shopping,
I park properly between the lines, or between vehicles.
I don't get in other people's way while shopping.
I bring a corrugated box to carry my groceries home.
I place my groceries on the checkout belt in the order that they should be bagged (or boxed in my case).
I usually box my groceries myself as fast as they are checked out, no bagger needed.
I have my credit card in hand ready to pay, no fumbling around.
I put my shopping cart away neatly.
This is just a small example of my superiority over others. There are many more category's where my example is exemplary.![]()
What do black crime statistics tell you? Blacks and Asians are both racial minority groups. How do you explain the vast differences between them as citizens or residents of the U.S.? In fact how do you explain the substantial differences between all the ethnic groups here?
Uh...
The big issue with Tay is that she was supposed to be a learning AI who was programmed to learn from those who interacted with her.
This led to a lot of people attempting to examine the relevant ethical issues behind Tay, with Microsoft's actions being seen as morally akin to either a lobotomy or brainwashing depending upon who you were talking to.
Unfortunately, racial/religious/ethnic prejudices are all facets of tribalism. Which is part of the evolutionary baggage we inherited from our hominin ancestors. Who lived in smallish family clans and tribes. In prehistoric times, it had survival value to be at least suspicious, if not outright antagonistic towards members of other tribes who were competitors for resources. So the instinct to be fearful of, or to dislike anyone different from ourselves was favored by natural selection. And it was usually reinforced by tribal culture and beliefs. But obviously, this trait can be highly maladaptive in the modern world, where people of different races and ethnicities have much more contact with each other. We can suppress tribalistic instincts by learning. But sadly, until we can figure out how to reprogram our brains, only further evolution can eliminate them.
This isn't superiority. It is a superiority complex. You are basing your analysis on subjective factors you think make you exemplary.
Crime was used to impugn the wave of Irish immigration in the 1850s. To some extent, it was true that younger Irish immigrants and 1st generation natives were involved with criminal gangs in Boston and New York. Herbert Asbury's book, The Gangs of New York (on which the movie was based) documents this in detail. But does this mean that people of Irish ethnicity have some innate tendency to commit crimes? Criminal behavior will exist among any racial or ethnic group that is marginalized--white, black, Asian, or whatever. And particularly so in a crowded urban environment.
And we thought that porn was going to be the biggest problem on the internet. But seriously though, there's a lot of deception, perversion, and hostility on the internet. I think the internet has proven that if there are no consequences for our actions, then everyone would be a psychopath. Says a lot about human nature, really.
On the internet I am a 35-year-old Plastic Surgeon with six-pack abs and a yacht..... I think we can fix that nose problem and give you a chin.... just sayin’.... mention CF when you call and we’ll give you a free tube of our newest product, Freckle Fixer, a $350.00 value. On the internet, everyone has a high IQ, a rare personality type, is an expert in something, and can kick your butt with their black belt in whatever martial arts Batman uses. On the internet you can be "superior" without having to prove it. It's harder to do so in real life when you happen to have average intelligence, poor social skills, few marketable skills, and perform better in Parkour than Krav Maga.
If the internet never existed, I'd probably wouldn't be so pessimistic, desensitized, and artistic like I am now.
What do you mean? The internet is a medium, not a source. Most subjects the internet is a woefully inadequate source, at least for anything more than casual searches.
You first. What do black crime statistics tell you?
Blacks and Asians are both racial minority groups. How do you explain the vast differences between them as citizens or residents of the U.S.? In fact how do you explain the substantial differences between all the ethnic groups here?
Don't you agree that shopping would be much more enjoyable if everyone were like me?
You do realize that the country is a mess don't you? If everyone were like me this would be a wonderful place. No crime, no accidents, no drugs, no poverty, no unemployment, lakes would be safe to swim in, no rat problems (of course there would still be divorce).
Probably.
But, then that is the subtle point of racism (and, I am definitely not saying you are - I am just bringing it back to the OP): that it is really about a conformity that forces the result through handicaps and subjugation. I don't actually doubt a nation of "yous" wouldn't be well-oiled. But, that's also the goal of tribalism - to have a homogeneous people in mind and spirit, ideally with individuality still in tact.
Sure. They're D-I-F-F-E-R-E-N-T.![]()
Some people assimilate better than others. And some emphasize behaviors which expedite their acceptance.
Humans are social creatures, they will never work as fully individual. The fact that people follow a government organized as a country/nation demonstrates that individualism is not possible, unless of course you subscribe to some form of anarchism. Nonetheless, the social aspect of our species would mean groups would still form. I don't think that has anything to do with combating racism as it is only a fairly recent social construct in human history (i.e., there is nothing inherent about it).The only way to fully combat racism is individualism. Collectivism maintains racism.
