  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does anyone have an opinion on My Morning Jacket? All I know is that they're from Louisville, which is hella-close to where I grew up, so I pretended to like them because of that. Oh, and I guess I enjoy "One Big Holiday", but I've only heard it a handful of times. The thing is, I'm having a hard time pinpointing their sound for a review of their new album. Can anyone offer any help?

Well, it sounds to me like what would happen if indie rock had a child with southern rock and a volcano all at the same time. But not while the volcano is errupting... but as the lava is slowing creeping down the moutain-side.

I liked their first cd, though I haven't heard the new one. I'm going to try and see them live next month, though.

Their first cd had to grow on me. At first I was kind of luke warm on it... but now I enjoy it well enough.

Thanks for the help Jacob. :) I think they have a decent amount of southern rock influence, which is mainly heard in the guitars. The vocals on the new cd have alot of effects on them. I shouldn't have taken this one on without having a good grasp on their first cd. :sorry:

And I personally really like "Concerning the UFO sighting near Highland, Illinois". Actually the show was great. Not phenominal, but great.

That's a good one (of course). Where did you see him?

You know, we really should just keep the Sufjan thread running. It would be popular. :)

On that note, I noticed yesterday that The Indie Thread has nearly as many views as The Coffee House. Woot!

I saw him at a great venue in Newport, Kentucky called Southgate House. It's one of the cooler places I've been too -- though they make a horrible Shirlee Temple. It's an old mansion converted into a concert hall.

Awesome. That was the show that Nadroj went to, and the one I initially planned on attending before I decided that Chicago was much more convenient. I missed out on the Fiery Furnaces when they went through in the Spring, but I did some research regarding the venue and it seemed very nice. :)

Are you from Cincy?

Huh... I was there as well. If you go to shows there often, we'll have to meet up sometime. I go there all the time -- there's a Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! show tonight that I'm going to, and Deerhoof is next Monday. Let me know if you go to another show there.

This isn't really Indie related, but I think FruityLoops is going to be my newest obsession for the next few months. I am finding that it is eating up all of my freetime.

Hooray for home-made techno!

I use FruityLoops to create click-tracks when I record. I'm warming it up now to use later this week to do some acoustic stuff.

Sufjan was the first time I'd been there. Let me know who's coming and I'll come down again. I live in Dayton and attend school at UD.
