  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone else think that "Anthems For a Seventeen Year Old Girl" was incredible?

Everyone seems to think so; it's a good one, but not one of the best on the album, IMO. I dunno. I like the mostly instrumental tracks the best, especially "Pacific Theme" (which might be the best rock instrumental I've ever heard) but also "Shampoo Suicide."

Wow! Somebody who actually knows Modest Mouse! Shazam!

Seriously, though, I don't think they suck. And don't pay any attention to PhilN. He's got the hots for them, too, but he's a self-admitted smartass...

Ha, a defensive Modest Mouse fan. I think the reason we have to clarify our Mouse tastes is because MM has been branded a light-rock band by the mainstream due to "Float On" and "Ocean Breathes Salty". Had "Black Cadillacs", "Bukowski", "Satin in a Coffin", or "Bury Me With It" (which I all thought were as good as "OBS") been played constantly on MTV, the general public may have a different perspective on the band.

The Moon and Antarctica was okay. The Lonesome Crowded West is the real masterpiece.

LCW doesn't get the credit it deserves, but I certainly don't think it can compare with TM&A. "Tiny Cities Made of Ashes" has one killer bass line.

And yeah, they sold out, but "Float On" wasa pretty good single. I won't fault them for it. Everyone likes money.

I can't see why Epic didn't push "Gravity Rides Everything", "3rd Planet", or "Paper Thin Walls" as singles off of TM&A. Each is as catchy as "Float On" in its own right.

I just want to take this oppertounity to say that I just can't enjoy Modest Mouse. And today I figured out why. Because Ugly Casanova was just so freakin' amazing MM just can't compare.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to tell you that Kelly Clarkson can never enjoy you because I'm so freakin' amazin' that you just can't compare. :p

As for UC, I thought "Hotcha Girls" was amazing, and "Smoke Like Ribbons", "Things I Don't Remember", and "Pacifico" were all pretty good, but the depth of the lyrics don't approach MM.

Ah, see, I don't give one iota about lyrics... I just love how the songs are performed.

Each to his or her own, I guess. I just know that whenever I listen to Modest Mouse it feels like there is something lacking sonically that Ugly Casanova has.

Alright.

I added you on my userlist, but it's not really registering you. Is your user name "Blackwasp" with the "b" capitalized? It may be case sensitive.

If I'm not on soulseek, just send me an IM and I'll get on (if my away message is on, I'm still probably around)

i Just listened to Saint Etienne's 'Lose That Girl' and i can't get enough of it. I've always had an interest in Indie but never really looked into it, but now, i think i should.

Seriously, here goes the fourth time i a row i'm listening to that song. And this comes from someone who likes Black Metal! (don't need a post about wide tastes, i'm just joking).

Anyway, I'm wondered if i can get recommended some difintive Indie bands/artists to get me started.
