  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

3rd wave of ska. The lamest and most pop-punk one... The Pietasters, The Impossibles, Less Than Jake, Dance Hall Crashers, etc.

Well then I would concur with you in that respect. But you can't lump Desmond Dekker, The Skatalites, Prince Buster et al in with that bunch.

your post was confusing though! i mean, you throw in the words "lame" and "pop punk" in the same sentence. it's enough to make any good impossibles fan nervous. haha.

anyway. i have nothing of worth to add. i haven't heard any new music in months. i am going to see anathallo on sunday, though, and that might be vaguely interesting. they're apparently re-releasing luminous luminescence in the atlas position, their first album, and i'm real excited about having the chance to own a real copy of it. yay anathallo.

^Six Organs of Admittance, White Magic, Vetiver, CocoRosie, Akron/Family, Josephine Foster and the Supposed, and Animal Collective are also included in that "movement."

Devendra Banhart and the Hairy Fairy Band are touring this fall. Catch him if possible. It's a pretty enteretaining show. Especially if he's wearing a dress.

Yeah, I have the Six Organs of Admittance album, which I think is pretty good. I've been meaning to check out Animal Collective for quite some time. Hopefully I'll see Devendra in Chicago come October. Thanks. :)

Animal Collective are unlike all the other ones though. Some people like it, but I didn't think Sung Tongs was that great.
I'm one of those people that liked it. I liked Here Comes The Indian too, but I thought Sung Tongs was a lot more accessible than that.

Did you not like any of it? Even people who don't like the more (for lack of a better word) ambient stuff on there seem to enjoy "Who Could Win A Rabbit" and "We Tigers".

I like Six Organs of Admittance. I am sadly uninformed on the rest of that list though.

this is kind of on another track, but I just bought Twin Cinema today and can I be the first to say that The New Pornographers have totally outdone themselves. What an incredible album...

ok. granted, i'm only 5 songs through... but they'd have to seriously flub the remaining nine for me to change my mind.

Hmm. I may have to check that out.

I did like "Who Could Win a Rabbit," but that was about it. And I'm a big ambient fan, but wouldn't really call them ambient music.
Yeah, I wouldn't either. I can't really think of what I would call them. Some of the songs ("The Softest Voice") are a little more airy and atmopheric, while others are more melody driven ("Who Could Win A Rabbit.)"

What kind of ambient stuff are you into? Aphex Twin? I was listening to some of that stuff this morning.

Does anyone else here like Sonic Youth? I've got Daydream Nation and Sonic Nurse, but I don't really know where to go next. Help.

I am a massive Sonic Youth fan. Though, I'm afraid I'm not a good one to go to for recommendations, since I seem to enjoy a lot of the albums other fans seem to find so-so.

But I really like Washing Machine... and it seems your average fan finds that to be a decent album. Goo is very popular, though I'm not as fond. Though I used to really like it. But I think I burned out on it.

I just purchased and printed my ticket to see Sufjan Stevens at the Middle East in Somerville, MA on September 8th at 8:00.

I also just paid twice what I should have because Ticketmaster is a greedy.

Eh, it'll all be worth when I set eyes upon Sufjan. I think I'm developing a mancrush on him.
