  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

^ Great choices! I haven't heard the Six Organs of Admittance album, but all of the other ones are personal favorites of mine.

Do Six Organ of Admittance have some tie in with Devendra Banhart? I thought I heard something about that, but I may have been mistaken.

Hmm...I'm not sure. I have a 3 hour drive back home today, so I'll get a bit of music listening in. :)

I found an indie record store on campus that's great. All of the cds were new, and three of them were only $8.99 apiece. The most expensive ones (the Pavement albums) were $13.99, but are both 2-disc sets. I also talked with a couple of the people working there about the Intonation festival. Good times. :)

I haven't heard about it; they get lumped in with the "New Weird America" label along with Banhart and Newsom often, though, even though SOoA have been at it for 5 or so years already. "School of the Flower" is a good album, though -- one of the better ones I've heard this year.

I need that Six Organs... album.

Have any of you heard of Blanche? I saw their music video on the Paste Magazine DVD Sampler and it was amazing. It reminded me of a mix between 16 Horsepower and The Arcade Fire. I haven't been able to find it in a store anywhere, and have been too lazy to order it online.

I've heard of Blanche via Pitchfork. I remember skimming through a review of If We Can't Trust the Doctors a while ago. Pitchfork wasn't too impressed, if I recall correctly, but your comparison to 16 Horsepower makes me want to give them a listen myself (after all, it's not like Pitchfork has never been wrong or anything).

I've got a few tracks off the newest SoOA album, but I haven't really listened to them yet.

And on a not-so-indie topic, I got the new System of a Down album, which I think is a little short, but has some decent songs. I've had Cigaro stuck in my head most of the this weekend.

MODEST MOUSE!!! (although im not sure if they're still considered indy)

i dunno it's hard to be indie when you have songs on kidz bop compiations

is hip hop indie? there's a bunch of fun stuff out right now (prefuse 73 reads the books, edan, dalek, etc) but it might deserve its' own thread :)

I got into this a bit LATE in the thread ;) and, sorry, but I didn't read it all. It's really cool to see so much indie here tho.

Anyways, I'm not too good at genre-izing, but here's some of my favs:

mewithoutYou - FAV BAND OF ALL TIME
Berry - AMAZING, know some of the people, check 'em out - http://www.myspace.com/berry
Caleb Engstrom - more amazing, I know him check him out - http://www.myspace.com/calebengstrom
Anathallo - amazing.

Did/do you like "Either/Or"?

philN said:
Yeah, I'm curious as well.
I think Either/Or is my favorite Elliott Smith album. Although XO is not far behind.

I've been trying to listen to all the discs, so I think I've only heard it once through, but I really like it so far. (I'm getting ready to listen to it again.) I was really surprised by Broken Social Scene...that is a very good album. :)
