  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Excellent choices. They are both fantastic. If you like electronica at all, you should give Enjoy Your Rabbit a shot too. It's a little bit different (it's nothing like anything he's ever done before), but it is still ingenius.

I'm glad to see him incorporating the electronic music into his upcoming album about Illinois, or at least in the tracks I've heard so far.

I downloaded like three songs from Illinois, then my computer got a virus, which won't let me get online. So basically I have three songs there that are gorgeous, but when I listen to them it's a bittersweet experience, because I know that I won't be able to hear the rest until my computer is fixed. The songs I have are really good though. I mean really good.

Genesis isn't very indie, but listening to Genesis is pretty indie, since it's taht paradoxical ironic thing where they're so cheesy that listening to them becomes cool.
that is exactly why indie is so freakin' cool... it's FLEXIBLE. I can listen to any style of music from any period of any popularity level and it can be worked into an indie mindset.

for those interested, or for those who don't know yet, here are a couple of sites with good Chrstian indie music:

www.velvetbluemusic.com ( check out Richard Swift's "The Novelist". Wow. )
http://www.lujorecords.com

Enjoy.
Velvet Blue has put out some decent stuff. I got the Frank Lenz album to review not too long ago and it was pretty decent. Richard Swift is great.

Lujo is hit or miss. Erik is a nice guy and he has put out his fair share of good records, but a few of the more recent albums have been a little derivative (the album I heard was The Kidcrash. I wasn't that impressed). Although last time I checked he had assembled a very talented/noteworthy roster.

I'd also throw out www.burnttoastvinyl.com it's not really a label, but they do a fair amount of distro stuff. They also put out the vinyl versions of a lot of albums you have probably heard before (Seven Swans, Greetings From Michigan, and the new starflyer and damien jurado stuff was all done by them). Plus Scott Hatch, the owner, is just an all around nice guy.

I'm ashamed to say that, as a life-long music fanatic and long-time drummer, I still can't keep up with exactly what "indie" means. I know back in the '80's and '90's it just meant non-corporate music. Bands that were unsigned to a major label. If that's still what it means, then I've gotta give my props to a band from my hometown of Dallas, Texas: Flickerstick.

They're signed to a little local label in Dallas, so, hopefully they'll fit in the indie category...

That's still the term. It's more of an economic and marketing thing than an actual genre. It can also apply to people who listen to indie music, and particularly hipsters.

What was everyone's first concert experience?

The real one or the good one?

First concert ever was Depeche Mode, but I try not to remember that. My second concert was the Jesus and Mary Chain at the Fillmore in San Francisco, 1986-ish. Man, that was a crazy-wonderful experience.

These days, "indie" means "covered by Pitchfork Media or attempting to be".
