  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey guys, I just bought seven albums today:

"Pickin' on Modest Mouse" -- A Bluegrass Tribute featuring Iron Horse
"Whenever You See Fit" -- Modest Mouse/764-Hero
"Keep It Like A Secret" -- Built to Spill
"Perfect From Now On" -- Built to Spill
"Didn't It Rain" -- Songs: Ohia
"Michigan" -- Sufjan Stevens
"Seven Swans" -- Sufjan Stevens

looks like you got some good stuff. i'm really aching to buy some new albums, but there aren't any stores near me that really carry much at all in the way of indie music. also, i really enjoy the few songs i've heard by 764-hero. any of you guys into them?

The Indie Thread cannot die. I will not stand for it.

People should go check out Everything, Now! at www.everythingnowmusic.com. They are one of the few bands of people that I know that I actually like to listen to. They just got signed to Standard Records in Indiana and they have a new album "Police, Police" which is really good. They have some mp3's on their site. Check 'em out.

I'm more posting this to break the silence than anything else, but they are worth giving a listen to.

I'll check them out after I finish this last final at 3:20. :)

I'd like to know if anyone knows much about 764-Hero as well. The EP I bought wasn't bad, but it only had 3 tracks. Kinda disheartening to spend $7 on an album with 25 minutes of music. :(

By the way Jael, do you ever shop on half.com? You can find some albums fairly cheap, but you have to factor in the $2.50 s/h. For the most part though, the more rare indie albums are fairly expensive.

thanks for the resurrection, phil! i was feeling like a murderer. i wholeheartedly second the recommendation of everything, now!. they're a great band.

as far as half.com, no, i've never shopped there. i check out ebay sometimes, and the used stuff on amazon sometimes, but i get impatient with internet shopping (even though it's much cheaper). i like to buy cd's on whims, and internet shopping requires patience and deliberateness.

oh and just for the record, not that anyone will remember, but my name is carroll. it's sort of weird being called jael, even though it makes sense given that it's in my username.

What was everyone's first concert experience?
Creation. As in the music festival, not the literal Creation.

I was probably about 11. I went back again a few years later, but by then I was smart enough to see all of the hypocrisy, the prostitution of Jesus' name via t-shirts and bumper stickers, and ultimately the deficiency of talent, self-importance, and arrogance of the bands. Although they did sell some kickass fried oreos there; those almost justified the whole infuriating experience.

Her voice truly haunts.

I'm glad I found this forum. Here are the next five albums I'm tentatively planning to buy:

Miles Davis' Kind of Blue (also has John Coltrane!)
Depeche Mode's Speak n Spell
Gothic Archies' New Despair EP
Slint's Spiderland
Del's Deltron 3030

My CD collection is scant as I've recently realized Internet piracy is wrong, so I've a lot of filling in to do. What do you guys think? Suggest any alternatives?

Carter USM in Tain town hall when I was 15. Me and some of my pals climbed in one of the windows in the gents toilets since we didn't have tickets. They were great, the place went mad when they played 'Sherrif Fatman'.

I usually download an album and then buy it in the store, that way it's all good. :) I only buy a record without listening to it if it's either Radiohead, Bjork, Mars ILL, and now Joanna Newsom.

I just got Sufjan Stevens' Michigan and Seven Swans. Awesome records.

Excellent choices. They are both fantastic. If you like electronica at all, you should give Enjoy Your Rabbit a shot too. It's a little bit different (it's nothing like anything he's ever done before), but it is still ingenius.
