  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

i've been listening to the notwist's neon golden for the past couple days, and it's such a good album. any of you guys own shrink? i've been thinking of buying it sometime (it came before neon golden and has the same sort of sound from what i've heard, but i think it's a bit more intense).
It's almost as good, but still very much in the same vein as Neon Golden.

I don't think I've ever heard notwist. What kind of music are they?
Like Ms. John Soda and Lali Puna. Subdued electro-rock. Speak-sing vocals. Very controlled. Often pretty, sometimes abrasive.

Ween is in the studio again! I got to go down to the studio with Aaron the other day and hear some of the new stuff. The song they were working on was really 60's/psychedelic and it sounded pretty sweet, I can't wait for the new album. You can only take so many live albums and b-side records (even though they are pretty decent), before you want some new material.

What are all your thoughts on the new White Stripes album. I just got it, and while I haven't really given it a whole lot of listening time yet, I like it. It's different, in the good way.

I also got the new Out Hud and Thunderbirds Are Now albums. I skimmed through them each, but I haven't listened to either in full. They both sound like things I'll enjoy.

I really like the new White Strips-- but I think that it is a stepping stone album. They'll refine that sound into something spectacular.

I picked up the Thunderbirds Are Now album and was kind of disappointed. I wasn't sure what to exect, though as it was more of an impulse purchase.

If you guys want, you can go to www.colleenplays.org and hear all of her new album "The Golden Morning Breaks," which sounds amazing. I highly recommend it.

And yes, I only know about her because Pitchfork reviewed her album today. So sue me. :)

I think it's okay. My least favorite song on the album is "My Doorbell", and surely enough, it's all over the radio. I think the album would have benefited from having more tunes like "Blue Orchid", although "Little Ghost" is a catchy number.

I'm more embarassed of liking ska...
As well you should be.

The Alkaline Trio is probably my biggest guilty pleasure, although, I don't really feel all that guilty about liking them since they write great songs and are good at what they do. I also still have my old Nerf Herder albums, which I listen to on occasion -- if only to belt out the chorus to "Nosering Girl".

"She was the kind of girl that you would give up eating meat for
No more salami. No more steak or potatoes.
Yeah, you would walk on down to the health food store
And buy hummus and tabouli and baba ganush
And rice cakes, Rice Cakes, RICE CAKES

Nooossseerriinng Girrrrrrrrll! I looooove yoou!"

Since no one liked my mp3 blog question, I'll pose another to you indie kids:

What's your guilty pleasure?

I like ska. I also like a lot of hip-hop they play on the radio, but I'm not afraid to admit that. I'm more embarassed of liking ska...

I agree with Phil...shame on you for liking ska. :p What hip-hop do you like on the radio?

My guilty pleasures are hit and miss, normally just a few songs from certain bands like Blink-182 and The Bloodhound Gang. I'm also a fan of quite a bit of Disney music. :)

I have a Muslim friend from Yemen who has just about every Disney song you can think of on his mp3 player. He knows all the words and can quote large portions of the movies also. He once asked me to call him Simba; I refused.

Mainstream hip-hop stuff isn't nearly as bad as mainstream rock. I mean, on the radio you can hear pretty decent songs by 50 Cent, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Eminem, Nas, and the list goes on. I don't think you have to feel all that guilty about liking some of those.

You made the right choice.

I like some mainstream rock and some mainstream rap. IMO, 50 Cent has been downhill since "In Da Club". I noticed Kanye had a new song out that seemed pretty good. I've never cared much for Missy, most of Em's material prior to this last album had been pretty good, Nas is king, and Jay-Z is hit and miss. The more I think about it, some mainstream rock songs annoy me a lot more than their rap counterparts.

I like some mainstream rap as well, and probably in general more than mainstream rock. But, I have to say that some mainstream rap is among my most hated music. I swear, they seem to sound more and more like parodies of themselves as time goes on.

I love disney songs! i quite like Kanye, may invest in his album, and i liked some of eminem's stuff but haven't liked any of his recently. that's about where it ends for me and hip hop really, my younger brother has the worst taste in mainstream hip hop and it drives me insane! my family are out at the moment so it's MY music on the speakers. A bit of Jeff Buckley before my brother comes home and puts on something like Holler back girl. arghhh i think i may go for a walk when he gets backI have the new white stripes album but am not alowed to play it anywhere other than on my mp3 player with the headphones in. "father christmas" left a white stripes dvd in my stocking last year and has regreted it greatly since. My mother does like that doorbell song, but that's where it stops, any other song and she seems to have some sort of allergic reaction.
