I could very well tell you to take my word for it, because I am Jewish and we are talking about Jewish culture and customs. I prefer to use your own NT to confirm what I am talking about. I have two versions of the Bible here with me. The Catholic version of the New American Bible and the King James version. Both have Matthew and John using the right term we still use today. The sixth day of the week as the Preparation Day, being the next day the Sabbath. In the NAB John calls that Sabbath a solemn Sabbath because it coincided with the Passover. Te KJV has John calling that Sabbath a High Sabbath for the same reason.

So, other than supposedly the bible, you have no source for your definition of high sabbath?

Regarding John calling high or great two of those sabbaths, that's what they were. We keep two days as if they were sabbaths. The first and the last of Passover. The 14th of Nisan was on a weekly Sabbath, as well as the last, 21st of Nisan. Therefore, both were high Sabbaths. We still observe them as such. Only that John's reference in 7:37 has nothing to do with the Passover. At the end of that Passover there were already seven days that Jesus had been crucified. You are either confused yourself or trying to trick me. If Jesus missed that Passover on the 14th of Nisan, he had been long gone on the last day of that Passover.

So, would the 21st, if it didn't fall on a weekly sabbath still be a high sabbath?

The bible doesn't call the 14th Passover a sabbath, but rather the 15th is.

As I can see, you don't like to check Biblical quotations, because we have been through this a few times already. I have no choice but to write it here for you:

"The Lord said to Moses, speak to the Israelites and tell them: The following are the festivals of the Lord, my feast days, which you shall celebrate with a sacred assembly.

For six days work may be done; but the seventh day is the Sabbath rest, a day for sacred assembly, on which you shall do no work. The Sabbath shall belong to the Lord wherever you dwell.

These, then, are the festivals of the Lord which you shall celebrate at their proper time with a sacred assembly: The Passover of the Lord falls on the 14th of Nisan, at the evening twilight..." (Lev. 23:1-5) Read again verse 5. It talks about the first day of Passover in the 14th of Nisan, which must be celebrated with a sacred assembly, just like we do in the Sabbath of the Lord.

How about if everyone (without making any judgment or interpretation) just posts ALL texts from Scripture he/she knows about that talk about this event, and then we can share what Jewish, Christian, and Muslim scholars have said about them. THEN, we can give our own input and ideas. My view is that Scripture should be the launching point for any discussion on theological issues. Do you agree?

Qur'aan.. Chapter 4.

SCRIPTURE:
(translation, of course)

(157. And because of their saying, "We killed Al-Masih `Isa, son of Maryam, the Messenger of Allah,'' but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but it appeared as that to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely; they killed him not.) (158. But Allah raised him up unto Himself. And Allah is Ever All-Powerful, All-Wise.) (159. And there is none of the People of the Scripture, but must believe in him, before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection, he will be a witness against them.)

STATEMENT OF SCHOLAR:

Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Ibn `Abbas (cousin of Prophet Muhammad) said, "Just before God raised Jesus to the heavens, Jesus went to his companions, who were twelve inside the house. When he arrived, his hair was dripping water and he said, `There are those among you who will disbelieve in me twelve times after he had believed in me.' He then asked, `Who volunteers that his image appear as mine, and be killed in my place. He will be with me (in Paradise)' One of the youngest ones among them volunteered and Jesus asked him to sit down. Jesus again asked for a volunteer, and the young man kept volunteering and Jesus asking him to sit down. Then the young man volunteered again and Jesus said, `You will be that man,' and the resemblance of Jesus was cast over that man while Jesus ascended to heaven from a hole in the house. When the Jews came looking for Jesus, they found that young man and crucified him. Some of Jesus's followers disbelieved in him twelve times after they had believed in him. They then divided into three groups. One group, the Jacobites, said, `God remained with us as long as He willed and then ascended to heaven.' Another group, the Nestorians, said, `The son of God was with us as long as he willed and God took him to heaven.' Another group, Muslims (general term that means one who submits), said, `The servant and Messenger of God remained with us as long as God willed, and God then took him to Him.' The two disbelieving groups cooperated against the Muslim group and they killed them. Ever since that happened, Islam was then veiled until God sent Muhammad .''

Mere speculation on my part:

If the reports of the disciples seeing Jesus after the crucifixion are accurate, then PERHAPS the live Jesus was sent down to meet with them once more??? The only thing that wouldn't fit with this theory is that I think Christians have texts indicating that the body that was seen AFTER the crucifixion had marks on it?

Hi JJ,

The New Testament Scriptures were written by various people who actually knew Jesus or his Apostles. This Quranic account of Jesus is a complete contradiction from what they wrote. Not only does it contradict their account of his death and resurrection, but it contradicts the entire Gospel that they preached. They taught that Jesus was crucified, died, was buried, rose again, and ascended to heaven. The Quran was written ~600 years after the actual witnesses wrote the true history of Jesus found in the New Testament.

Thanks for that.

I'd agree that the 15th, the first day of unleavened bread is a festival, a high day, sabbath. The 14th, passover, is not sabbath or festival.
