CH Spurgeon wrote in Trembling at the Word of the Lord:
"Who Trembles at God’s Word?
They are not a proud people. They do not cry, “Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice” (Exo 5:2). They are humbly hearing, hearing the Word of God and inwardly reverencing the heavenly monitor. 2 They are no longer careless and reckless, for the voice of the Lord has brought them to their bearings. They have bowed their heads before Jehovah, and they listen with rapt attention to everything that He may speak. They are like the child Samuel when he said, “Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth” (1Sa 3:9). They are teachable and lowly, and by no means belong to the school who correct the infallible and judge the unerring.
2 monitor – one who warns of faults or informs of duty."

But there are further definitions of "Monitor" which certainly would describe a true Monitor of God; that being,

1) a student appointed to assist a teacher (Jesus is our teacher, and we are of His body, hands, feet, etc. 1 Cor. 12)

2) to watch, keep track of, or check usually for a special purpose, (God calls the Watchman to warn - Ezek. 33)

3) A monitor is a relatively small warship that is neither fast nor strongly armored but carries disproportionately large guns: a small modern warship with shallow draft for coastal bombardment (We are weak in the flesh but strong in the Spirit. Matt. 26:41, Eph 6:10. While the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God is certainly the most powerful weapon in our spiritual arsenal, [because the Word is Jesus to whom every knee shall bow, and all power is given unto him: Phil. 2:10, Matt. 28:18] I would compare a believer more to the Civil War ironclad named the USS "Monitor" and it's heavy armor as our shield of faith and helmet of salvation, etc.)

4) In the United States, a hall monitor may be either a student volunteer who is charged with maintaining order in a school's corridors, or an adult paraprofessional staff member who carries out similar duties, sometimes in conjunction with other functions. Students may be selected as hall monitors because they are considered mature and responsible enough. (Ok, I was a rebel in school, so hall monitors were hated and avoided by our kind. They were also persecuted and made fun of, which is quite comparable to what a true Christian believer must endure. Such a "Monitor" is all about accountability - Heb 13:17 "Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you."
Iron sharpens iron - Pro. 27:17, also Matt. 18:15-17, Gal. 6:1-2 "bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" etc.)

The church needs Monitors today who would fulfill this duty, which is certainly scriptural on many levels.
