Well let me put it this way...
He believes he knows something that is so important, he'll never learn anything else as remotely important. He'll never learn something "life-altering"...he'll never learn anything else that could shape who he is or his understanding of the world. In a sense, he's done learning anything important. Everything he'll learn from now on is a triviality compared to what he believes he already knows....
It's the very essence of what is meant by "close-minded". A world of possibilities is gone forever to him. A world of understanding is lost.
The irony in this....is that he views his position as "superior" to all others.
We have been here before Ana...and I am not going to repeat myself, just because you are. One of us is wrong. I will leave it at that. Then why was that a complaint about my position? That I had no room in my view for anything greater...when you have no room in your view for anything greater?
I'm sure you think you know. So far, all you've alluded to is your perspective.
How do you "know" this thing you claim to "know"?
Sounds to me like what you're saying could also describe an enlightenment.

Could it? The more I've learned throughout my life...the more I realized there is to learn. That's the closest thing to enlightenment I've ever known.
If enlightenment involves turning your brain off once you've convinced yourself that you've got it all figured out...I'll pass on enlightenment.
I say it's still not cool, dude.

The lack of benevolence?
I'm not concerned with what's cool, Neo.
That's a good point. But I thought you said he thinks there is nothing more significant to learn *by comparison*. That doesn't mean there is nothing more significant to learn at all.
Do you have beliefs about something...something you can't prove or demonstrate...that you're absolutely certain you cannot be wrong about?
I'm not sure how that's relevant to whether that could describe enlightenment.
That is what we're talking about here. If it sounds like enlightenment to you...I'm curious why.
Good and respectable and honorable, then. That's what I mean by cool.
I haven't disrespected Scott....I have challenged his beliefs, but that's a big part of this forum. If you're looking for a place where everyone agrees with you and pats you on the back for how bright you are...you're posting in the wrong section (maybe the wrong forum).
What?
That's not the same thing.
Then I'm not sure what part of my posts bothers you.
Lol, what?
Oh, I guess I find the behavior to be disrespectful.
