Mark, you are unwittingly presenting a strawman arguement. Here's the scoop. There is no biblical basis for an ever-burning hell for the unbeliever.

This is why it is impossible to talk about hell with Christians. Put ten Christians in a room, and you get eleven versions of hell.

The believer will live forever, not even remembering loved ones who were not called ("even the memory of them will cease") so we will not agonize over those left behind. It's all good.
