Both parties have been for big government for some time now. They appeal to different interests groups. Trump to big steel, Obama to big green. Can't speak for Bernie, but Donald didn't sell out, he bought off.
Remember the good old days when the GOP stood for small government fiscal hawkishness, with a healthy respect for states' rights? You're not supposed to -- because then you'd have to deal with the fact that they traded all that in for a few SCOTUS nominees.

Trump nor his supporters have never tried to be more blue collar than thou. Okay, maybe Haninty does go on about every job he has ever had, from construction guy to journalist.
The GOP limited government theory works well at the local level, say, with local banks with a limited number of clients. At the national level though, we really need government involved in major industries. We can't compete with other countries otherwise. If you're implying that Donald is a symptom, not a cause, of the GOP's selling out, I can get behind that.

Jeb Bush did a good job explaining the downsides of banking regulations on small banks. Trump would would probably go along.Too bad they touted it at every level... and continually criticized the Dems for being against it.
And who needs to compete when you've got tariffs?
More of a plan and strategy for growth. Europe, Japan, China, and Russia all do it.Government should have a stake in major industry?
Old Baltimore was probably on par with the Bronx in terms of working class. New Baltimore is more on par with a beautiful park surrounded by places one should never go.

The article is saying she is not a socialist. That is true she never claimed to be a socialist.https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2018/06/28/pers-j28.html
Ocasio-Cortez is a bourgeois politician, not a socialist. She does not question the economic foundations of capitalist society—the ownership of the banks and giant corporations by a financial aristocracy. She does not suggest that the property system in America or the accumulation of unheard-of wealth by a tiny fraction of the population should be questioned, let alone ended.
Scary, is it?Okay, but you're advocating for the government to have a stake in private industry?
Sure. With subsides, not outright ownership. Similar to what we do with agriculture. It's all private, but the government helps keeps the market running smoothly through subsides. It's worked well agriculture. Why not try it elsewhere.Okay, but you're advocating for the government to have a stake in private industry?

Surely you remember the difference in definition between a socialist and a democratic socialist from Bernie Sanders' campaign.

Did Obama get called about every name in the book for backing the auto industry?

In the States, the focus seems different. Candidates favoring subsides are narrowly focused on being pride candidates, and offering free college and health care. The better aspects of their agenda are overshadowed.Because that's what Democratic Socialism is all about -- and that word gives the Right the willies.
Yes, it is. Free markets work well at the local level. It's hard to have an international free market. The freemarket is overrated anyway.
