  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Who do you think will win it this time round? Do you think it's time for Li'l Johnny to go and let someone else take the helm for once?

I personally think Australians tend to the be most boring voters - it's either Labor or Liberal for the masses, neither of whom really care for the needs and the wellbeing of the average Australian at heart.

There are plenty of other alternative parties one could be voting for.

One thing for sure: Family Farce will not get mine.

Little Johnny......says even if the Libs do get in again, he won't serve the full term, he'll give the reins to Costello......but I guess when you vote you should vote for the party, not the person......I just wish they'd announce the date so we can get it all over and done with

Norbie - why are you so worried about next year.

I am flat out trying to get through one day at a time without being worried about next year. I am trying to just believe that God is going to provide for us, and one day just one day we may own a house lol.

Yeah, I don't know what's going on, now JH has said he's going to stay in for 3 years if he wins.

I don't know who is going to win, but like Annie I just wish it would be called and over with.

I have a serious dilemma.
Don't like Johnny and the way he treats the people. I don't like the liberals much - won't be voting Liberal.
Kev is probably just as bad, their policies don't differ much, except Kev probably is a little more inclined to some social action. However 6 state governments are all Labor - a federal labor government with a majority in the senate plus all the state governments could be very dangerous. - don't want to vote Labor.
Democrats + Greens are both pro abortion, as well as just putting policies as strongly opposed to the main parties as possible to gain support.
Family First - **shakes head**

I have nothing going for me...however my seat is a safe Liberal seat so my vote is not going to count anyway.

Well first I am worried because I have to pay off a little more of my morgage. But I like you to think it over: how much rent you pay and how much your repayment over say 25 years will be? I had the same question before me and it worked out cheaper in weekly terms to "pay off" so do a little more studies on this, there are even places were you don't need a deposit this days. See, ones you are "in" and you both are young you got everything going for you. Real Estate will stop still or go up, but won't go down. It's werth a thought, even if you have to resell with a little deposit left for the next house. You have to step up slowly, start with a "handymans dream" and go on from there.
I also share your believe that God will provide, but I think only if we try hard to help ourself. I know this because my Son has 3 children and a single income and fighting with the budget very much also. But he pays $ 250.00 Rent a week, and this in a little country town, compared with myself who pays $ 175.00 a week to the Com. Bank for my house. You see what I mean, on a 25 year loan you will be paying less then the rent. Just a thought, my Dear Lady.

I heard JH say if he wins he'll stay for 3 yrs too.....but don't think he meant as PM...I think he meant he'll stay as the member in his own electorate !!!! At first I thought he meant as PM....but then I thought about it...and I'm not so sure.....time will tell...

Annie - I think you are right - I heard someone else on the news say that the other day, it was only for Benelong that he was going to stay in, so they didn't have to vote on a bi election.

Norbie - we have looked at those loans that you mention, we can't get enough for a house.

We are going to be paying nearly $400/w in rent becaue it's going to go up. That is only for a 3 br house.

$400 a week rent for a 3 bedroom house...oh my dear girl, that's disgusting !! And I presume you're on one wage ??? Do you have little ones as well ?

I read recently that about 28% of people each week have to foreclose on their mortgages because they simply can't pay them anymore.....what chance do they have when rents are also so high...and state housing waiting lists are years long...and of course many of these people would be more middle or upper class (if you know what I mean) they'd have good jobs, with good money, but simply can't pay...I wonder how much worse it will get....no, it doesn't bare thinking about....

I must say....I really enjoy talking to you and Norbie...and tgg and the others as well....but I feel almost as if we 3 are mates.

Smiles, Annie

Thank you Annie, I will be your mate too.

It's not quite 400, but around 380. Too much, but that's what is happening in Canberra now. Yes I have 2 children, aged 5 and 2. Canberra's rents are on line with Sydney rents or so the real estate agents have been saying anyway.

Back on track - in the news I heard that Family First is putting forward an idea of giving out a 10,000 baby bonus for those expecting their 3rd child.

On the one hand I like it, but I am wondering if it even goes through, it is an election promise I suppose lol.

I am just not so sure about it either, I wouldn't have thought the government can afford that, already the baby bonus is 4,000 and it's not means tested either.

For a start I think Family First has got "Buckleys" of getting elected, and as you suggest....how could they afford it !!! Do your children go into day care, or do you keep them home ?? My daughter has two littlies, aged 2 and 3 yrs and she's said how expensive day care is. They live in Tasmania. I think she gets 3 days day care a week, but it's free coz they are on a low income...something like that...but now the 3yr old is starting not to like it much. My daughter has had several emotional problems and needed a break from the kids, that's how she got the free day care for them. Don't know how long it will last though. Gee I'm glad I don't have a young family anymore, though I still worry about my ...kids having their kids !!

Praise the Lord!!!
Praise the Lord! There are still miracles happened. Now it would be important to have some trained people in your church for 'follow up' and care for your friend.

Oh my Dear Neenie, with nearly $ 400 rent to pay your DH should be at least $ 1200/week earning. It must be terrible hard for you. Maybe your greatest help would be home cooking and home sewing, I guess.
But at least you are in Canberra, I am in a small country town like Muswellbrook and our rent also goes up to $ 400. It's cathastrophic. That's why I believe it will be the biggest 'Boomerang' for the Libs. in the election campain to boost about their "super economic management", people can't see anything like this happened.
