The funniest question: "how soon do you think it will be before monkeys become humans, *again*?"

I think the question should be the other way around "how soon do you think it will be before humans become apes again".
We are apes. The ugliness you see in the world is because we no are no longer merely apes. While apes are capable of violence and doing harm to others, it is because we are human that we have become as debased as we are. We know good and evil and that makes all the difference.

Jesus showed the way out of that.

So simple, and yet so hard to accept.

I was thinking more along the lines of de-evolution. Because humans are acting like animals. But not in the physical sense but rather in the spiritual sense. It seems that philosophically evolution has caused many to confirm their belief in a materially made world where there is no need for God. Scientific materialism has become dogmatic and replaced belief in God or any idea of a creator behind the material world.

Now humans are seen as meat robots without free will and subject to deterministic processes of evolution. So we give up our sense of agency and become baseless animals rather than created in Gods image.

That seems to be the natural progression and implication of evolutionary thinking. That is why I wonder sometimes how evolution can easily be contrived as evidence for creation without God rather than creation by God.
