  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello moms...and maybe the very rare in-touch-with-his-feminine-dad.

I am putting out the frump queen challenge because we all know that since kids, our zippy, sporty, pizzaz, hip, cool, glam, artsy, (whatever your flavor), has days that it just isn't there, and we become FRUMPQUEEN!

Come on, admit it, unless you have a household of servants, you've run out the door to do an errand, run the kids somewhere, or to go to an appointment, only to run into someone who, if your lucky, didn't recognize you. You know....like this:

+ = FRUMP QUEEN

...or perhaps a king or two.

(I'll admit it, for me it has included our State's Governor and his first wife, at least a couple of my husband's business clients, and the dreaded old classmates who was looking great! At least none of them have caught me driving the kids to school in my jammies yet, though...WHEW!)

Anyway, I am challenging all of us to list what is our own personal 10 minute method to "spiff up" before we go out the door. I'm choosing 10 minutes, because that is what is socially acceptable for lateness. Maybe we can help each other out....or hopefully have a good laugh in the meant time.

I'll go first on the next post.

Have fun!

O.K....in honor of my sister, who doesn't come here. I'll list her method first. Besides being an at-home-mom who runs a business from her home, she also runs marathons. So, even if she is showered (if she is lucky), she often puts on running gear for clothes, everyone just assumes she is in training (which always is forgiveable in almost any setting except where formal attire is required). And she puts on her "it always looks good" baseball hat that she came across....one of those ones that look sleek, yet cute at the same time.

She does dress in daytime clothes for when she does work presentations though.

So, for the athletic type....sports clothes, sports shoes and a baseball hat.

THAT BEING SAID! I am NOT the athletic type, though I do try to bike and do yoga when I can. After 10 years though, I think I have found my method. It goes like this:

Over whatever I am wearing I put on a just-past the hips length black trench coat, sleek my hair into a pony tail with a black hairband. I brush my teeth, put on red lipstick and eyeliner (usually charcoal or navy blue) and the FINAL AND MOST IMPORTANT STEP!

1 pair of black plastic lady-like sunglasses. (My currrent ones are seriously channeling JackieO.)

The trench, lipstick, ponytail and sunglasses seem to do the job. When I am indoors, I prop my sunglasses on top of my head, and at least look like I have less sleepy eyes with the eyeliner...

So...what else y'all got?

Oh my goodness, I'm an all-or-nothing girl. I just make myself get up earlier and shower and do my hair. Even if I look clean, made-up and put-together, if I don't feel clean, made-up and put-together I'll be uncomfortable unti I am.

I've always been a frump queen. Before and after kids.

And why should I bother dressing up for the world.
Ditto on the always have been. I wore pajams through high school and college, it was more comfortable that way Justin has intensified my frumqueenedness, though!

lol cute post! The only time I really "dress up" is when im out with hubby - so my everyday look is fairly easy. Styling my hair takes about 5 minutes if I dont curl it, and I cant go out with out my eyelashes curled and with mascara, earrings, and my lip gloss. Hmm that leaves me about 2 minutes to get dressed, and I often hang my outfits together in the closet so I can just grab a hanger and go! (I sure hope I didnt have to get the kids ready, too - lol) I would be mortified if I was caught wearing my pajamas before the kids bedtime.. maybe its the whole SAHM stigma, but I just cant do it

So here it is, my usual dilemma...too much to do in a day, and too little time to change attire! Heheheh!

I will start by tearing appart all of last years old stuff in my garden immediately after dropping off the kids at school. (I clear in the spring so wind doesn't blow off top soil....big wind here).

THEN I have to rush to the grocery store to do the weekly grocery shopping!

THEN I have to run to Kohls to return a backpack that was way overpriced compared to the ones I found at TJ Max.

THen I have to pick up the kids from school, feed them, and get my girsl to Jazz class....and at what point do I shower and primp the grit and dirt from the garden. LOL!

I have such a desire to BE the well coifed and make-upped one (and I salute those of you who are!), but I am clearly sliding into FRUMPGARDENQUEEN mode today. (yes, dressed much like you see my CF Character!) So, thankyou to those who boldly and proudly frumpqueen out, because it seems I have no choice today. I don't think any black trench and black sunglasses is going to hide dirt stains on the knees, grit under the nails, and probably dried dead weeds in my hair. I'll have to shoot for wipe my face with a washcloth and maybe brush my hair. LOL!

WEEEEEEEEEEE! see you folks later!

I have a uniform - its basically jeans and tshirts. I try to get "fancy" knits and jeans cut trousers as alternatives and my "standard issue" tshirts are fitted rather than loose and baggy. I always look "neat" but I really only own casual clothes. I wear fancy trainers (like Diesels) rather than Nikes - also dresses things "up" a little, and helps to de-frumpify!

A couple of tips...

  • Have your eyelashes tinted - that way it always looks like you are wearing mascara - instant makeup!!
  • Switch your normal facial moisturiser for tinted moisteriser - keeps your face looking fresh and smooths lines and blemishes.
  • Keep a tinted lip gloss in your handbag - that way you can apply it in the car, instead of before you actually get out the door
Is that the kind of thing you were looking for?!

If I need to *BE* somewhere, I pick out mine and the kids clothes before bed the night before. Otherwise, getting dressed is at least an hour long process. Right now I'm freshly dressed, but my 4 year old is wandering around in his undies, and my 3 year old JUST has a shirt on. My 1 year old is fully dressed though.

My goal - be dressed by the time Hubby get's home, even if that means 5 minutes before hand! lol

My 3 year old is often running around in his undies (we call them jocks). My 1 year old usually stays in his pyjamas until we have to go out somewhere.
I always aim to shower and be dressed by noon!

Yes, and AMEN SISTAH! I should add, my red lipstick at the start of the day is one of those ones that last all day unless you eat too many greasy things (good motivation to avoid fast food and oils...keeps my lips in place!). It's red, but muted, so I don't look like bozo the clown.

I came in for a bit. Got a call. I have to add writing up a girlscout event itinerary for a 2 p.m. meeting that became necessary for the event. I'll be in wipeout mode by bedtime tonight.

Gotta go! Hugs AJ! and All!

Check back on and off, I'll PM you when I get a chance on how to do this. I think I know where you are getting stuck.

If we're lucky we'll be on at the same time, and maybe I can walk you though it.

REALLYREALLY GOTTA GO NOW!

Oh - and I never brush my hair. The messy look is in

Oh..and I think hubby would kill me if I went back to the short hair - no need to brush style. lol

My hubby likes me with short hair. I love that messy is in. I don't brush my hair either. It curls enough then and I toss in a bit of goop and run. If I brush it then watch out the frizz queen is coming.

Have your eyelashes tinted -
:o

I'm pretty much pleased with myself if I have my teeth brushed and don't smell when we walk out the door. But what can I say I don't go any where that jeans, flip flops and a tank would be unacceptable clothing. I do have my "I'm a good and organized mom whose got it all together" outfit that I wear for first meetings of children's activities and such. It is dark trouser jeans, a cute cami with a matching cardigan sweater and brown heals. It is always clean. I'

No thanks. I can't even go to the eye doctor without becoming a flinchy blinking mess and that is something I have to so I can see. I can't handle people playing around near my eyes.
