Memorial Tower would have been more fitting, since some of the people's bodies disintergrated into dust there. Freedom Tower...who thinks of these names??? How is it a symbol of freedom?

The word freedom by itself isn't cliche and has a significant place in the history of this country but lately it has been used by the president to define anti-american sentiment as those against "freedom loving nations" and "those against freedom".
In other words he's cheapened the association "freedom" has with this country (ie revolutionary war) by using it to demonize those against agenda and practices of the US, which imo has created a horrible disparaging cliche out of it.
Thus naming the new tower the Freedom tower doesn't represent the history or values of this country imo but instead its reference seems more targeted to delineate those against us.

I personally think the design is just not ambitious enough, it is only 70 floors of occupied space, hardly close to the standards of being the tallest building. I think the open latticework on the top will look out of place too, althought the idea is cool, environmentally safe and provides 20% of the structure power. But men, it's a see through, what they going to do, light it up at night?

Who cares if it isn't the highest? Size isn't everythin, ya know.![]()
Well, given the size of the old World Trade, it would be funny if we build something that's half of it's previous height.
Forget "funny", what happened to "sensible"?Ikaria said:Why?Forget "funny", what happened to "sensible"?
There's nothing intelligent about building a bigger one "just because we can." It sure doesn't prove anything.
It will look like we lost to the terrorists, like "look, Americans are so scared of the terrorists they are scared to build buildings that's as tall as before"
Besides, what's so not sensible of building tall buildings? There ain't that much free space in downtown manhattan you know, they need to squeeze out all that they have to make it the biggest, baddest, the most advanced to make the area what it was once before. They need to attract all the big companies to move their offices back in there. Retailers needs those traffics of working people to boost their economies as well, while residents demands more residential avalibilities.

When a guy slugs you in the face so hard that he almost takes your head off, the correct response is to shield yourself before goin back in again, or back up and wait for a better time to re-enter the fight.
The incorrect response is to stick your jaw out and ask for another smack in the chops, claiming that "I can take it!!!"![]()
Ikaria said:Ya don't need a monstrously tall building to do that.
The replacement doesn't hafta be 2 million stories high to do what the Twin Towers did.
Yobi said:There's no point in saying "[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse], we have to make the buildings smaller and harder to hit"
