  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Revised WTC Freedom Tower Design Unveiled
It will be the tallest building in the world when completed.

Frankly this dissappoints me greatly. The name Freedom Tower sounds horribly cliched to me. I don't like it when words such as that are used to such excess or in names to be frank. It causes the word to lose some of its meaning and importance. Though, granted, this particular structure is deserving of an inspiring title they could have atleast selected something a little more original.

Now, about the height. This is an immature display to me. Why did it have to be the tallest in the world? I would have thought it much more appropriate and lasting a tribute for the tower to be the same height as the Twin Towers were (1350 feet). Now we have a building that is built to compete with the rest of the architectural world and it is only assured a temporary spot as the world's tallest tower. It makes it seem as if we have something to prove to the world.

If we are truely the greatest nation the facts will speak for themselves. There is no reason for additional symbollism and pomp and circumstance to embellish our image.

Symbollic meanings aside I think it is an aesthetically pleasing building even though I am not normally fond of skyscrapers done in the modern architectural style.

Love it, and I couldn't think of a better name either. An attack on freedom took place there, it seems reasonable to me therefore that Freedom should be the name of the tower. The terrorist failed and thanks to their efforts two terrorist regimes in the middle east are gone forever and 60% of their friends in Al Queda are dead.

meh, im not a big fan of the building personally. The way its designed will cause many of the upper floors to go unused, and it wont give us the same economic value as the world trade centers did. We should have just redone the world trade centers but made them more modern looking.

They should build two of those tall towers instead of one, so we can still remember the resemblance to our old skyline. Could've name one freedom tower and the other liberty tower, and call the area United Center, United Trade Center, or World Trade Center. It's just that I feel it shouldn't just remind us of what happened but also bring resemblance of a world coming together, it shouldn't just resemble America but also resemble world peace.

i hate when people feel the need to change the names of common items around in a desperate attempt to be patriotic. "freedom fries" vs. "french fries?" "victory cabbage" vs. "saurkraut?" how stupid.

and yes naming it "freedom tower" seems quite trite and cliched to me.

I think it's gorgeous, though not really practical nor distinctively American. I think I read that the spire ont he side was supposed to emulate the torch carried by the statue of liberty.

The architect is a Univesity of Texas alumni. Hook 'em.

If I didn't know better I would think this was named by the president.

It is absurdly ostentatious and the name Freedom tower is a horrible cliche and is completely irrelevant to the previous buildings, in addition to why they fell.

Very arrogant and embarrassing imo.

I think they could have just named it the Hitme tower because of the international resentment its going to invite.
