As a church (SDA) we teach that the forth seal represents the time-period, A.D. 538 to 1500. We teach that sword, famine, plague and wild beasts represent the persecution and destruction of 25% of the earth by the papacy during the Dark Ages. However, sword, famine, plague and wild beast are repeatedly mentioned in the Bible as punitive judgements from God. (see Ezekiel 14: Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 32) Nowhere does prophecy mention they are used by the papacy.

Do you think this is a issue we need to revisit, or to continue teaching that God punished His own people for a thousand years and allowed the papacy to flourish?

We need to keep on teaching the landmarks of our faith. So you believe the Bible is so shallow there can be only one usage of terms. What a negative view of God. You appear to think God is far less than infinite.

Gary, you are good at making broad statements, lacking specifics. Please explain to all viewers what you consider are the landmarks of our faith, since the seals are not mentioned in our 27 Fundamental Beliefs.

Too, explain what you mean by, "terms", and what "terms" I used in this thread, that has been used in other prophecy having a different meaning.

I'm sure others would like to hear your response as well.
