"The case does not bring to a close the legal challenges facing Trump and his businesses – far from it. Bragg has said that a related investigation he inherited from his predecessor, District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr, is “ongoing”. In that case, investigators are reportedly focused on assessing the integrity of the Trump Organization’s financial statements.

And earlier this year, the New York state attorney general, Letitia James, brought a sweeping civil suit against the former president, three of his adult children and the Trump Organization after a lengthy investigation by her office. That suit, which is still pending, accuses Trump and his children of “staggering” fraud, alleging that they provided fraudulent statements to lenders and insurers that wildly inflated the value of his real estate holdings."

And the second shoe drops:

My confidence in the criminal justice system has been renewed. The system is finally starting to work.

Yes it works, Trump has not been found guilty of any criminal violations.

Yup, just like when they closed his charity and school, and when his lackeys have been guilty and gone to jail.
==========
So far, Trump himself has been above the law.
================
So, yes, Fantine is premature. It will take more time until Trump himself is indicted and convicted (or agree to deals).
=========
This is a political board. There will be two major continuing subjects to follow for the next two years:
1) the 2024 primaries and elections, and
2) Trump's indictments and convictions.
[and there will be side shows in the House to occupy the time of the far right)
==========
Today is the transition into the new political cycle.

15 years of tax fraud? That Trump wasn't found guilty is a technical truth. I mean, it seems difficult to continue to argue he's an honest businessman at least.

Besides, are we supposed to believe that Trump didn't know what was going on "just because he says so"?

He will have a harder time getting loans--making him more likely to seek financing from countries which will compromise him politically--Russia, Saudi Arabia, countries with ties to N. Korea.

And he's been doing that for years already....much to his supporters ambivalence.

Don't all presidents take loans from enemies like North Korea when they are president?

I suspect that list of convictions for Trump will be quite long, as will be the list of convictions for his companies and his employees (perhaps even his family).

There should a lot of decisions in 2023.

Not for their private business.

I strongly disagree. Trump's supporters, his 30% of the Republican voters don't care at all. They were fine with him breaking bread with anti-Semites and white supremacists.

Folks just continue to refuse to believe Trump. Long ago, he said that he could commit murder in broad daylight on 5th avenue, and they would still support him.

The ambivalence is among the establishment Republicans who continue to refuse to oppose him, no matter how many elections he loses for the party.

I definitely agree with that. Are we....IN disagreement? I was saying his supporters continue don't care about his distasteful actions....and you seem to be agreeing.

Yes....but they continue to refuse to oppose him because of the pressure from his supporters.

There will be much bigger stories than Trump, let us just see if Biden can hold up to anything remotely close to the scrutiny that Trump overcame

Let’s see if Biden does anything that might deserve a closer look?

That has clearly already happened, just some people refuse to see it yet but they will.
Anything that jumps to the top of the list or are you going to adopt a wait and glee approach?

The prospective new speaker of the house has already indicated what investigations are going to be started, it has been on the news, but I also like the wait and GLEE concept

Spite investigations. They're good at that.

I they learned all the best dirty tricks from the examples provided in the past two years
Oh come on now, not only have the past two years seen a lull in such, but Republicans have been indulging in spite investigations - Whitewater, Benghazi, Durham, Horowitz (just off the top of my head) - for decades. Certain Republicans are renowned for their dirty tricks such as Roger Ailes, Karl Rove, Roger Stone, the late great Lee Atwater.

Spite investigations. They're good at that.
Let them use spend their time on investigations, as in the past. They will only be relevant when they are trying to close down the government and reduce Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. And that will only happen a couple of times a year.

Consider the difference between the House Republicans and the Senate Republicans. Senate Republicans have negotiated many pieces of legislation in the past two years, to the great benefit of the country. I expect ZERO from the House. And they will proudly run on that record in 2024.

I will not ask for evidence because obviously even your time line is incorrect.
