That suit, which is still pending, accuses Trump and his children of “staggering” fraud, alleging that they provided fraudulent statements to lenders and insurers that wildly inflated the value of his real estate holdings."

The Trump Organization was fined $1.6 million – the maximum possible penalty – by a New York judge Friday for running a decade-long tax fraud scheme, a symbolic moment because it is the only judgment for a criminal conviction that has come close to former President Donald Trump.

Two Trump entities, The Trump Corp. and Trump Payroll Corp., were convicted last month of 17 felonies, including tax fraud and falsifying business records.

As with most punishments' for white-collar they may as well be honest and call it a fee or cost of doing business.

Lol that would be consistent with what some posters seem willing to believe.

I saw a poster say he believed Biden’s lawyers were just packing up Biden’s stuff in a university office (as lawyers typically do) when they just happened upon some classified documents that they and Biden had no idea were even there....oopsie.

If someone is willing to believe that....why wouldn't you believe Trump had no idea his org was doing any tax fraud?

Certainly, it possible that Trump didn't know. Whether he did is a matter of evidence. When Biden did does not affect whether Trump did.

And just BTW, those going to jail will be those who lied under oath, primarily any lawyers who stated that there were no documents. Trump or Biden won't be convicted for taking documents, or even knowing that they be taken. Giving them back keeps them out of jail. Not cooperating with court orders is another matter entirely. Proudly stating in public that the documents belong to the president and won't be returned is also another matter.

So, yes, taking documents is a violation, not returning them is a violation, and not cooperating with a court is a violation (including lying under oath). All have different penalties.

The disclosure about how the Trumps haven't made any financial statements to banks or accounting firms was made in a Feb. 3 letter written by a retired judge tasked with babysitting the Trumps’ real estate empire, in a document that was made public in court filings last week.

The Trumps “have not provided a 2022 statement of financial condition to any third parties, and do not intend to do so,” Barbara S. Jones, a former federal judge now in private practice, wrote to the state judge who appointed her.

the Trump Organization’s financial statements are now the center of the New York attorney general’s massive fraud investigation; and any large real estate company would have to regularly make financial condition statements anytime it seeks to borrow money for a project from a reputable lender.

That means that, either the Trump Organization has fallen on hard times, found a bank willing to do business without responsible paperwork, or isn’t telling the truth.
