Again, arguing a point I didn't make. I didn't make a judgement about the movie. I am making a judgement of using the movie as a platform to espouse pure nuttiness.Once again. Do we judge a movie by what the actors believe in real life?
Of course not.
And we shouldn’t on this one either.
Tom Hanks said some pretty stupid things over the last couple of years. Should we boycott Saving Private Ryan?
Again, arguing a point I didn't make. I didn't make a judgement about the movie.
You not judging the movie, you are just judging the use of the movieI am making a judgement of using the movie as a platform to espouse pure nuttiness.
Someone using the movie as a vehicle to espouse nuttiness is not making a judgement about the movie itself. You not judging the movie, you are just judging the use of the movie
Sure sounds like you are judging the intent of the movie that doesn’t support anywhere in the movie what you are complying about.
This is what I keep asking you. Do we judge a movie based off of the actors personal remarks and feelings
Evidently that is exactly what it looks like you are doing.
All this having never even seen it.
Watched the movie on Thursday. There is nothing there to use.
You would know that if you actually watched the movie.
There are those of us who still remember the lessons learned from the satanic panic that we witnessed during the late 1980s into the early 1990s and how good honest people’s lives were ruined because of a desire to “save the children”.Watched the movie on Thursday.
Not a whiff of any conspiracy non-sense.
You would think reasonable people could get behind a cause like child trafficking and drop all the political mumbo jumbo.
I guess it is more important to hate right wing conspiracy nuts than save children from slavery, rape, and killing?
Kind of shows where people's heads are.
Yeah... this is all make believe. Just forget the whole thing. Nothing to see here! There are those of us who still remember the lessons learned from the satanic panic that we witnessed during the late 1980s into the early 1990s and how good honest people’s lives were ruined because of a desire to “save the children”.
Perhaps you’ve glossed over my point?Yeah... this is all make believe. Just forget the whole thing. Nothing to see here!
Have those (beyond normal theatrical embellishment in movies "based on a true story") been identified in this movie?Well, there are actual child trafficking experts who are worried the inaccuracies and conspiracy theories might harm ongoing efforts to fight child trafficking. I suppose as long as one discounts those voices they can pretend the media is "playing defense for pedophilia". Seems shortsighted though.
It's not so much the storyline as the images presented. I'd bet big money that the only people watching "Cuties" multiple times are pedophiles. The one on Netflix or something worse? I've never watched it but I read an article that explained the storyline.
Did you read that twice before posting?Perhaps you’ve glossed over my point?
Yes, we must all be aware of the dangers of unscrupulous people who think nothing of preying on our children; but we should also realize that most people will not harm or exploit children and [we] could do more damage by waging an unending war on the few.
Do you remember the Satanic Ritual Abuse scare of the 1980s-1990s?Did you read that twice before posting?
That's true of all heinous crimes. Most people don't engage in them. Why should we not wage unending war on the few who do?
I'm sorry, are we just talking about a movie here? You would think reasonable people could get behind a cause like child trafficking and drop all the political mumbo jumbo.

Yes. The worry (as I understand it) is that the vast majority of trafficking is not being abducted from a stranger as portrayed in this film. This is the exact same complaint that is against the real life protagonist from the movie. That he concentrates on high publicity "stunts" and ignores the hard work that comes in fighting trafficking as it is normally prosecuted.Have those (beyond normal theatrical embellishment in movies "based on a true story") been identified in this movie?
Unless the movie claims that's how most kids are being trafficked, that's a fake complaint.Yes. I think some of the backlash stems from stuff Cavezal has said during the promotion of the film and elsewhere. He’s a big Qanon guy apparently, so while that stuff isn’t in the movie, it’s still being attached to the movie.Unless the movie claims that's how most kids are being trafficked, that's a fake complaint.
This is supposedly a movie about one particular true sequences of events.
Compare this movie to any other "based on a true story" movie...and your only complaint is "that's not how most abductions happen?"
That's like complaining about "Blackhawk Down" "That's now how most combat extractions happen."
I’m lost now…I don’t think that the film is controversial because how the “true-story” parts are portrayed but that there is a movement pushing this narrative that hordes of children are being abducted for nefarious purposes. If this is the “evidence” maybe a movie isn’t the best venue to broach the subject?Unless the movie claims that's how most kids are being trafficked, that's a fake complaint.

Where were the liberal complaints about "The Woman King?"
That is not contained within the movie.I’m lost now…I don’t think that the film is controversial because how the “true-story” parts are portrayed but that there is a movement pushing this narrative that hordes of children are being abducted for nefarious purposes. Who attaches it to the movie? I haven't seen any of those references in the marketing.I think some of the backlash stems from stuff Cavezal has said during the promotion of the film and elsewhere. There’s definitely some overreaction happening, too, but it’s not coming from nowhere.
