  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am a progressive, and I saw the movie with progressive friends.

As a true story it was compelling, gripping, and heartwarming. As an example of typical sex-trafficking, it failed miserably.

Advocacy organizations point out that:
  • most trafficked minors are runaway teens aged 15-17.
  • many trafficked teens are LGBT children who have been disowned and evicted from their homes by disapproving fundamentalist parents.
  • the traffickers in Central and South America are not usually natives. They are Americans who travel there to make money snatching teens whose parents don't have the resources or ability to track them down.
So no, in most cases trafficked minors are not 8 to 10 year old Hispanic children kidnapped by evil adults from their community who transport them across the border, accompanied by the drug dealers and rapists who extremists claim constitute the "typical" immigrants.

The problem is in our own backyards. Profiteering Americans. Rigid, inflexible parents who reject the children God commands them to love unconditionally.

With so many big name, big time Hollywood productions — with the rare exception — tanking at the box office, it’s almost comical to see the establishment, propaganda media fall all over themselves to cast shade on a movie that seems to be resonating with 100 percent of the audience, according to Rotten Tomatoes, “Sound of Freedom.”

And with there being a plethora of examples of said media giving the public the perception that they’re playing defense for pedophilia, grooming and trafficking, here’s a rundown of what the “professional” critics are saying.
With all the trash hitting the movie theaters and streaming media, it is unbelievable that anyone would protect the trash and come out against this fantastic movie.

I saw a video about the film. They said all the majors passed. It won't be shown on Amazon, Netflix or Hulu.

Yeah... they have to make room for Cuties. Would not want to detract from that!

The one on Netflix or something worse? I've never watched it but I read an article that explained the storyline.

Or like the people in law enforcement who actually have task forces to stop child trafficking. The task forces who have to deal with the crazy false conspiracies put forth by people who are part of this movie and share those same kind of insane conspiracies.
I don’t know what conspiracy theories are in this movie.

I see. Because most fall into a certain category, this should be ignored.

I have no doubt the inverse would occur if a notably liberal actor was involved in some sort of project like this and MSNBC were touting it...conservatives would find a reason why they should dislike the movie.
One doesn't even have to look very far to see that in action : Right-Wing Cranks Try to Get in on the Barbenheimer Fun

Although technically that's more conservative messaging making up nonsense about a film because it has a woman as a protaganist, but close enough.

Being biased doesn’t automatically make one wrong.
Your support of one biased expert view over the views of multiple disinterested expert observers is another example of cherry-picking.

I have seen the movie.

There is zero references to conspiracy, torture or anything like the trumped up noise being bandied about

It is a well done movie. Not over dramatic and not over done.

It was right around then that we cancelled our subscription. They had another bad movie that blasphemed Christ... not going to pay for that.

This is true. I saw it yesterday with the wife and there was absolutely nothing about conspiracies or racism.
Amazing how far people will go to fire up their own narrative. The movie is about saving children from sexual slavery. Can't they even agree that is a good thing???

I agree. It is an excellent movie about less common incidents of sexual trafficking. It is a true story.

The danger is not in promoting conspiracy theories--because it doesn't--but in misleading viewers in two ways.

As I said, organizations who work extensively with sex trafficking says that:

  • victims of sex trafficking are not often young children. They are most often runaway teens ages 15-17, especially LGBT teens thrown out of their homes by excessively punitive parents.
  • Sex traffickers are rarely South or Central Americans. They are most often Americans looking for victims whose families lack the economic and government infrastructure resources to track the traffickers down.
Conservatives often tell me that traffickers are "immigrant invaders" sneaking across the border. "We're being invaded every day by drug cartels and sex traffickers!" This misconception preys on fear and hatred of people who are most often desperately poor refugees trying to support their families--not criminals.

It can also be harmful because the best way we can protect children against sex trafficking is to be better parents. Runaway children generally live in dysfunctional homes. While it is normal for most children to experience some adolescent rebellion, throwing them to the wolves because of sexual orientation is not the answer. Better to use available community resources for struggling families--support groups, counseling groups, therapy. Parents may never feel comfortable with their children's decisions, but parenthood is for life, and protecting children until they are adults is a sacred trust.

I don't watch often. There's a lot of weird things there. But there are gems once in awhile and documentaries that are insightful. The Family was interesting. Vigilant Citizen provides great articles on the shows. If he's written something I avoid it.

I hope you answer, please provide a link.

Then the rest of your post will have some validity.

Because the US statistics say differently.

In fact, the average age that a young person becomes involved in sex trafficking is 12 years old. If the victim is a minor, no force, fraud, or coercion is necessary to prove trafficking. Any youth under the age of 18 who is involved in a commercial sex act is considered to be a victim of trafficking.

As someone who actually works on an Anti-Human Trafficking program you are correct. Most "consumers" of online trafficking on primarily in Western Europe, North America and Australia. The providers are mostly East Asia, West Africa, and an emerging trend in South America.

A new development has been the "consumers" in Western Europe, North America and Australia travelling to East Asia, West Africa, and South America in what is called "sex tourism".

With in the borders of the US sex trafficking victims are, primarily, adults. Often is investigations we discover what are called "branding tattoos" in photos on illicit websites. The traffickers literally mark the victims (mostly young women) like animals or objects.

As far as the movie goes, it is just a movie. I have no desire to see it and don't care if anyone does. At the end of the day it is a movie and not a documentary.
