The end is coming soon?

ive been in church since about 11 years of age. and theres one thing i cant quite clear up or understand,ive been saved about 2 1/2 weeks now, and i dont understand what they say by the end is coming near, how can we tell, theres this song about it "the sky will open up every knee will bow, the revelations coming soon" is the sky really gonna open up, and what if i miss it? do any of these questions make since. someone said to stay awake and be prepared for christ's coming, does that really mean stay awake? im sorry but some of this is confusing cause i am new to this,this is the last question i have that doesnt make sense to me. thanks to whoever listens and replys.

What stay awake means is to stay awake spiritualy, stay on gaurd against evil, don't let your defenses down. Get right with God, and don't let yourself be led astray. Don't let someone convince you that something is right, that you know in your heart is wrong.

A good example of sleeping spiritualy would be knowing Gods word, and laws, believing them, but not living your life for God.

Also the Bible says that every eye shall see him, this means you wont miss it when it happens.

I hope this helps you understand it a little better. the best way to gain a better understanding of what the bible tells us is to pray for it, God will grant us understanding through his spirit, and all we have to do is ask him for it.

GraftMeIn is right... when Jesus comes again to Earth, don't worry if you're physically asleep or away... the world will KNOW about it.  I belive that when the message is to 'stay awake' it's also a warning not to wait.

Some people say... "Oh... I'll become a Christian when Jesus comes"...  or "Oh... even if Jesus were to come it will be a long time yet, so in the mean time I'll do what I want and enjoy life."  People have the attitude that the things of God can wait.  The thing is... don't wait!  Do the will and purpose of God now!  Do what He has called you to do now, or you'll miss out and He'll get someone else to do it.

I think what is ment by 'the sky will open up..' is When the Lord comes through the sky a bright light is shown in his all mightyness... like a bright light eminating from him.... atleast thats how I see it.

We cant take everything in the Bible in literal meaning. If we did then we would also be looking for God to open his big chicken wings over us for protection. Heh, heard that one on the Bible Answer Man. To stay awake is to always be with God and not to be wrapped up in the world, because then deception could be easy and that would just plain stink.
