THE EMPTY CRADLE
The cradle rocks in a darkened room
Gently swaying
In time with the wind blowing through
The empty room
The swing blows in the afternoon sun
Lonely, waiting for the child to come
The swing hangs still as the wind dies down
The child does not come
The desk shines new in the bustling schoolroom
Laughter of children fills the air
Pencils and papers all around
But the desk sits empty
The high school locker stands alone
As graduates cheering, leave the halls
The high school lockers bears no trace
Of the ones who never walked here
An empty bed lies silent
As a child is born in the bed next-door
No mother comes to fill the bed
No child will be born there
An old woman lies in her hospital bed
Surrounded by her children
In vain she looks for her adult child
But she is not there
For lack of nine months
Many decades were lost
Empty are those pages of time
Forever the words ring ever true:
Abortion empties more than a womb.

I wrote this poem a while ago and decided to post it after reading the poem called Where Have All The Children Gone that another member had posted. Please pray for all the mothers who have been wounded physically and emotionally by the loss of a child, especially through abortion. And say a prayer for the thousands of women today who have scheduled an abortion appointment, that God might send someone to give them the support and love they need.
