• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't think I've been on this thread since the upgrade... so it's good
to be back...Im gelir ceni ad lín (I am happy to see you again). I often use an elvish or elvish-derived name, especially as usernames.
There are some sites which have elvish-derived names (they use the meaing of the name and use the elvish equivalent eg, Anna, which means 'grace' is translated as Eruanna, which literally re-translated means 'gift of God' [grace].)
[ot]the other day someone tried to compliment me by saying I look like Gollum  they claimed it was because I have big eyes  .

Yes, true. I mean, when you do not make up your own names, and use names/words from a book, there is bound to be someone else that uses that as well. I think I have found two other people over the entire internet that use my Elven first name, Kaimelar. And then use it as part of a longer name, so there is no confusion, since I often use it with my Elven last name.
*Raises hands in surrender* Point taken. Let's see how "song of the sea" sounds translated into Elvish.

Could you perhaps give me some links so I can investigate those sites for myself?

“Ëarlindë” is the Quenya translation I am coming up with for “Song of the Sea”. Literally translated, this means “Sea song,” but it is read as “Song of the Sea.” Hope that helps.
Namarie.

Thanks. I have to say, though, it doesn't have quite the same ring for me as Laurelin.

Yeah, I think it would sound better if there was a vowel between the "Ëar" part and the "lindë" part.
*Nods* Definitely. So I'll let you know if I come up with anything else, and in the meantime I'll stick with Laurelin.

Perhaps you should. I am not quite sure that it would be worth the 15, 000 blessings necessary to change your username.

My own username, Morvaltur, is a combination of three Quenya "syllables." Mor means "dark" or "darkness." Val means "power," and Tur is a suffix meaning "master of" or "mastery" or just "master." Thus, literally, Morvaltur means "dark power mastery," but translated as a name it means "Master of the Dark Power." In this context I am using dark to refer to darkness or night, not evil.
*grins* So no, I am not a satanic priest.

hi everyone  i don't speak elvish but i'd love to sometime when i have the mental capacity to spare (in the middle of a very hard year at school, yr 12 for anyone who understands the australian school system)

just noticed you were discussing names in elvish - would anyone be kind enough to translate mercy or Lord have mercy into elvish for me? my name's originally greek, and varying friends of mine who speak elvish to some degree tend to get hung up on the greek side of things. just plain mercy would be beautiful, unless there's a way to make Lord have mercy into one word.

thanks :)

basically i'm looking for my name in elvish, which is kyrie-eleison aka Lord have mercy. what would be great is if you could translate that for me, and give me the noun mercy in elvish as well

does that make more sense?
