Same stupid scenario, different words.
If flat and level means maintain altitude, a scientist will understand that as well as anyone else.

My exact point. Scientists know that perfect geometry is dangerous thinking.

The 10 scientists are running around, waving their arms, cursing all
these "idiots" because they refuse to acknowledge that the pavement
is crowned and twisted to accommodate gravity.
Then they need some medication for their autism. That's the only thing I can think of that would stop an educated person from accepting colloquial definitions as well as everyone else.
OK. You invented some scientists and made them silly. Congrats.
I guess he needed help writing his next novel. About autistic scientists, apparently.

This will be a case where the movie is better. I'll wait for it on netflix tho.

Do you think the planet earth is round (roughly)?

No. It is roughly flat. Only slightly out of flat. Imperceptibly curved. Practically flat.
.01% out of flat. Flat for all intensive purposes. Flat for most practical purposes.
Global-ness is a scientific curiosity on the order of curved space.

That would be a patch of ground. He asked you about the planet.

Do you believe a basketball is round?

1. So the planet earth is not shaped like a ball, roughly?

2. And if not, then what object is it shaped like?

Let me say it again...."I don't think the astronauts who actually circled the earth in space...think the earth is flat."

They followed a flat trajectory level with the earth and remained alive.
It's hard to argue with success.

There is a thick black line across the top of this post. Both ends
wrap around the globe and touch each other. Is the line flat
sloped, or shaped like a ovoid?

Only the nerdiest of geeks will not say flat.

...So what shape is it? What is the shape of the earth? Is it a flat disc? A frisbee-like shape? A half-circle? A donut? A large celestial dragon? Just saying "it's mostly flat" doesn't answer the question. If I zoom in close enough, my marble is "mostly flat".

You totally evaded the questions. Here they are again:
1. So the planet earth is not shaped like a ball, roughly?
2. And if not, then what object is it shaped like?

Actually they're falling.......and they did go around the earth....something you can't do with a flat earth.

And that is how people experience the world...even spacemen.
It seems flat even as you orbit it.

The more you protest, the more you paint yourself as one of
those scientists, running around, waving your hands in the air
insisting that every speaks your language.

Meanwhile, all the practical people with marbles proving
the runway and the world is flat.

And that is how people experience the world...
Most people do not actually experience the planet as such.
They experience a tiny local region.
And I agree, it makes total sense to idealize that local region as "flat" for most purposes.

Now back to the planet:
What shape is it roughly?

Then don't give flat earthers a hard time.
I don't give people a hard time for saying that the ground is flat. I will, however, give Flat Earthers a hard time, as that's not what they're arguing.
Most of us consider the earth flat.
No. The Earth is a planet. I would never say that it's flat. A certain area of its surface, on the other hand, is mostly flat.
That's mostly correct.
Patch of ground =/= Earth

It is shaped like like a dropped lump of bead dough.
No matter how far you travel by plane or even space
ship, you will find a flat surface under you of land
or smoother if water. By most any measure you
use, you will find it roughly flat.

Looking from the moon it will look like a globe.
But once you get back to the planet, it will be flat again.
Reality is reality and not what scientists want reality to be.
You might as well argue that all matter is energy
and most of that, empty space.

Ask people if matter is empty space...go ahead, ask.
