I don't really know what the rules are when it comes to this "Friend Zone". Can you be friends first? Do you have to start off on neutral ground? Is it anytime you're pushed to the "buddy" category?

Well whatever the rules are, while reading this thread I just realized that i have been friendzoned before. I know it sounds funny to say I "just" realized, as if it hit me like a brick, but it really did. I had a "Oooh thaaaat's what's going on, wow this is what everyone talks about" and a "Oh gosh, it really does suck" moment.

I'd would say being friendzoned is more annoying than anything. You're still required to be the good friend, and you know that you should because you have no reason not to... but a smaaaall part of you would like them to just disappear. LOL. Sorry, but it's the honest truth and you know you've thought it before too!

okay. this might sound odd/harsh/both...but the way people talk about how bad it is, I've always kind of equated it to the objects in the junk drawer. you don't want to get rid of it. because it is useful. and you're sure it has a purpose in your life. and sometimes, it has many purposes...but not enough to have it's "own place."

I have been friendzoned. I think. and yes. I have friendzoned. not disrespectfully. I still genuinely care about those friends. but that doesn't mean they are good for me. and i'm careful not to lead them on.

i'm still trying to figure out if I actually believe in the friendzone though...

I don't really believe in the friendzone; usually the person isn't attracted to you in the first place. Friends that end up as a couple usually mutually thought the other was attractive to begin with. You can't convince anyone to love you more by being a better friend. The friend zone is a mythical beast; certain people keep telling themselves that it exists when it really doesn't; when really the other person was never interested in being with you romantically from the get go.

But my mom says im the handsomest guy ever ..... are you calling my mom a liar? lol

But in all honesty, while I won't deny that the friendzone exists, I'm not personally a fan of the concept because it's generally just a way for guys to make themselves feel better by demonizing the women who say no to them instead of just respecting their decision, but I suppose it all works out in the end since that lack of respect and subsequent selfishness could be a reason why they were friendzoned in the first place. Boom.

I've never been on either side of the friend zone.

I don't have guys as friends. That basically eliminates any possibility of getting myself stuck in the tangled web of attraction between friends.

The only people who deny that the friendzone exists are those who have probably friendzoned (and maybe a lot because they get hit on or asked out A LOT) and are ashamed to admit it.

I've literally had girls tell me I'm the perfect guy. I'm smart, funny, passionate, loving, have a big heart, attractive on and on. Yeah, the past year or two I've been a bit emotional going through some junk, but I haven't always been that way and I don't think I'm as bad as I used to be even right now I've grown up a lot. Yet, being the perfect guy, I'm always the perfect guy for someone else lol. And even though I'm attractive (I have people tell me all the time "wow, you're an attractive dude! and those eyes!) I'm still overweight. And even after losing 200 pounds, I'm still overweight. So I blame it on the weight mostly.

To me, that's the friendzone. Anytime a friend asks you out or wants to be more than friends and you say, "Let's just be friends" that's friendzoning. Why tell someone they're the perfect guy, but you're not interest. Is what you just told me a lie? Or I am the perfect guy...just for someone else.

Sometimes I see that as playing games too. Another one I've experienced: "oh, you have every quality I look for in a man...so sweet and sensitive and nice and funny and cute...I'm just not ready to be in a relationship right now." Literally two days later, "Meet my new boyfriend!"

Despite my responses, I'm not bitter about it. I can look back at it now and laugh, but it just never made sense to me at all.
