It doesn't matter what Canada would do, or what I want them to do.
Sure. Everyone wants the USA to fight their battles for them, but of course no one is preventing them from stepping in themselves if there's a need that's as important as you're suggesting this one is.
My basic point was that despite attacking Obama for doing a "bad deal" with Iran (that was actually fairly fantastic given circumstances), Trump's here would be worse. Why? Because he's giving the other side exactly what they want, for free, and without any concessions.
He hasn't given them anything! Sheesh. Let's not fly off the handle like chickens with their heads cut off over so little when you simply brush off as unimportant -- or a great success -- that we gave away the store for nothing in return in the case of Obama's treaty with Iran.

You must be remembering some other "Conservatives" than I remember. Most Conservatives were horrified at Obama's appeasement in that case and very outspoken about it. At any rate, the poke at Trump still looks like partisan opportunism, anything in order to be ugly, you know.
No one had to do anything here. This shining endorsement came to Lord Trump all on its own. I know you have no choice but to turn that into a positive thing but really... It's North Freaking Korea!

Don't be naive -- if there's ever a Second Korean War, we'll be fighting it no matter whose troops are on the border.

With troops in South Korea, we won't have much choice but be involved. If we with draw, we will be able to decide for ourselves based on the circumstances whether to intervene.

It doesn't matter what Canada would do, or what I want them to do.

Then there's no reason it should matter what you would want the US to do.

Trump's here would be worse. Why? Because he's giving the other side exactly what they want, for free, and without any concessions.

What need would there be for concessions if what they want is also what we want - or at least what we should want? In this case, North Korea doesn't want a war and neither do we, so we pull the troops out. It's not that complicated.

a) Maintaining Korea as a trading partner;

We don't need troops in Korea to trade with Korea anymore than you do.

b) Offsetting the power of China in the region; and

Japan and the other countries in the Far East are in a better position to do that anyway.

c) Maintaining global stability.

Currently the greatest danger to global stability is that the United States will start a major war in an effort to preserve its status as the "world's superpower".

And we'll decide to intervene, just like we did the first time, for the same reasons.
