I’ve added a third: she’s a “first” - first female person of color.Of that I am sure. Harris has two great qualities as a candidate for Democrats:
That's how low we seem to have set the bar in American politics.
- She's not senile.
- She's not Trump.
I take comfort in knowing that no matter what happens, God is still on the throne. And this year, that's just going to have to be enough.
Of course they do. There's an old line from a Jimmy Stewart movie I remember which sums it up......There's the truth and then there's the legend.....and when truth actually clashes with the legend one longs to believe they'll go with the legend. It's convenient and it feels good and we can make ourselves believe it if we try.
Did you really want the Dems to do what they should have done and had Biden drop out last year?
Do you guess that Trump would have had a better chance against the winner of a set of primaries?
Could the reality just be that Trump is really upset that he can't run against Biden.
My question is why he is so afraid of Harris. Surely, open primaries were likely to produce a much more difficult opponent than Harris.
Yes, Trump set the bar very, very low.I’ve added a third: she’s a “first” - first female person of color.
You mean the progressive, liberal, majority has a problem electing a woman? I’m shocked! And you’re considering that she’s a person of color? I thought that was a plus.Yes, Trump set the bar very, very low.
Yes, Biden in attempting to run again set the bar very, very low.
Yes, a much more qualified candidate would likely have emerged out of an open primary process had Biden dropped out a year ago,
So, yes Harris does have a low bar to get over. However, I would note that this is likely to be a close election. Harris is black, is a woman and is from California. That IS three strikes for many, many Americans. (5 other countries have no issues in electing a woman; the US does have issues.

Oh, so Democrats are not a majority of voters? Seems odd that Biden could set a record without having a majority and beat an incumbent who got more votes than when he was elected.???
Democrats have no problem nominating or electing a woman.
The problem is with the Republicans, and perhaps even with the majority of voters.
=========
The governor of Michigan would have made a better candidate and might have gotten the nomination if Biden had dropped out in July 2023.

The majority voted for Biden in 2020 didn’t they? Or should we be listening to all the people that say there was a problem ????
Look it up.
The majority of voters are NOT Democrats.
The majority of THOSE WHO VOTED voted democrat. Don't assume that means the majority of voters are democrats. Big difference.....The majority voted for Biden in 2020 didn’t they? Or should we be listening to all the people that say there was a problem ?
I know. I was just picking on someone. Apparently there’s a problem getting people to vote for women and people of color. I think it’s just that’s it’s wrong woman who is a person of color who is running that is the problem. The majority of THOSE WHO VOTED voted democrat. Don't assume that means the majority of voters are democrats. Big difference.....
Not that at all for me. She is a far left democrat and that's a line I simply won't cross. BTW, I actually voted for Nikki Haley in the primary AFTER she had ended her campaign. In 2016 I voted for Ben Carson in the primary who had also withdrawn at the time......I know. I was just picking on someone. Apparently there’s a problem getting people to vote for women and people of color. I think it’s just that’s it’s wrong woman who is a person of color who is running that is the problem.
???The majority voted for Biden in 2020 didn’t they? Or should we be listening to all the people that say there was a problem ?
A majority of those who voted for Trump or Biden did indeed vote for Biden. The majority voted for Biden in 2020 didn’t they? Or should we be listening to all the people that say there was a problem ?
Uh, are we talking about the same election? Biden received 51.3% of the vote. That's an outright majority of the popular vote. The majority of THOSE WHO VOTED voted democrat. Don't assume that means the majority of voters are democrats. Big difference.....
....of the people who voted. Not everyone registered voted. Some simply turned their backs on both parties. Happens all the time......51.3% of the vote.
BPPLEE's point (stated severeal times) is that Democrat constitute a majority of US voters. That simply isn't true.Uh, are we talking about the same election? Biden received 51.3% of the vote. That's an outright majority of the popular vote.
Really? I was just questioning how Biden set a record for most votes if Democrats don’t have a majority.BPPLEE's point (stated severeal times) is that Democrat constitute a majority of US voters. That simply isn't true.
Yes Clinton and Biden both a a majority of the popular vote.
How are you defining "last minute"? They haven't even held the DNC yet.Is anyone old enough to remember when it was deemed a "right-wing conspiracy theory" that Democrats would pull Biden off the ticket at the last minute?

Neither Michelle Obama nor Gavin Newsom are on the ticket. In this case, it was just 9 months. That article is from October 2023.
Republicans float a quiet conspiracy theory that Biden won't be on the ballot
The mostly unfounded chatter includes talk that Democrats secretly want to replace him with former first lady Michelle Obama or California Gov. Gavin Newsom.www.nbcnews.com
