  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Please understand that the election was lost because white middle class and underclass voters in the Rust Belt stayed home. The da,age done by Sanders was never undone. Clinton only needed to win the Rust Belt which has gone Democratic in every election since 1992. Clinton needed to repair the damage done by Sanders in PA, MI, WI and MN.

She won the Popular Vote.

And that brings me to my question, is there any point in keeping the Electoral College?

The Democrats also won the popular vote in 2000.

Eliminating the electoral college would make small states and rural areas almost irrelevant. Also, there would be nationwide law suits and recounts in every voting district (tens of thousands) every time the election was close. Our founders understood this problem and compromised creating a Senate to balance the House, and an Electoral College to balance the popular vote of the large states.

So anyone checking out the protests around the country tonight? I would like to an article but some signs are not good.

Yes, I have been watching them. Thousands of people out in the streets protesting against Trump.

Yes, the ACLU will be vigilant as they always are.

Unfortunately, Trump may choose to reverse all the executive orders that helped protect the rights of gays and others.

It literally makes me sick to think about all the damage he can and will do during the next four years.

Me, too, but figuratively. But the opposition felt the same way about Clinton. An awful lot of them believe the lies told.

Trump's morality is fully acceptable to Republicans and other evangelicals. That's just the way it is.
Let's remember that this forum is not to insult or flame Trump supporters or evangelicals, as wrong as we believe they are in their choice.

Most Trump supporters are moral and look for a conservative court.
And it was the failure of the Democrats to vote, thinking Hillary had it in the bag or malaise in believing Trump did not have a chance, that caused her loss.

It really was not my intention to flame or insult Trump supporters by what I said yesterday. I was only trying to express my confusion and disappointment. Admittedly, I am still baffled how evangelical Christians could support that man, but it is what it is. The damage has already been done and I fear it will only get much worse from here for the next four years.

Most Trump supporters are moral and look for a conservative court.

But most Trump supporters are the ones who complained about Bill Clinton's sexual immorality and scandals, but they voted for Donald Trump. We all know what he is like and what he has done and has said about women. They lack consistency here.

And it was the failure of the Democrats to vote, thinking Hillary had it in the bag or malaise in believing Trump did not have a chance, that caused her loss.

Maybe you are right. I do not like her either. The dominant two party political system has to be challenged and changed. And I went back and edited a couple of my posts here. I realize I was emotional yesterday and not very level headed while posting.

Is this an insult or simply a fact. During the campaign, many evangelical leaders proudly pointed out that we were not electing a "pastor in chief". Make no mistake, Trump's past behavior was not a barrier to them voting for Trump. the behavior was acceptable.

I agree with you, Mark.

As an example, here is a meme quoting James Dobson concerning Trump. He apparently had a change of heart.

But then don't want to vote for Democrats because we aren't close enough to God.

In other news, nice little exchange I had today today. Heard this programmed conservative talking point.

"Obama sent race relations back 50 years."

It's something we've all heard from time to time.

So I asked. "What has Trump done for race relations?"

"Nothing! He's the lesser of two evils."

No point in making a list of all that's wrong with that statement, the number of people Trump has offended and potentially put in danger.

The damage was done by Clinton not Sanders. She was shoved down our throats and this is the result.
