Primary vote: Sanders
General election: Whoever the Democrat is.
Of course I'd prefer Sanders for President. But a Bush/Trump/Cruz/Rubio or whoever ends up on top in the GOP as president scares the begeepers out of me. It should scare anyone who thinks with their brain. To risk a Republican president for a moment by suggesting that "I'm a purist, and if it's not Bernie I'm voting 3rd party" is to risk those principles that both you and I stand on, principles that will be legislated out of existence by a GOP sweep of all three branches.

I'm not a big fan of either of the two major political parties, just see my signature here. But I will work to ensure that those who are elected are ones I can work with to get progressive policies passed. I'm not going to take my ball and go home if I don't get exactly what I want. I'm an adult who knows the reality of the need for compromise, something you're not seeing on the far right wing side of the spectrum. We do not need to be like them.

I've been fairly jaded, but people seem hopeful about Sanders. I'm afraid to vote for him, not because I think he can't win...but if someone like Obama can send the GOP into an adorable little tantrum about socialism, imagine what Sanders will do.

I'll always vote Democratic over Republican. It's as simple as that. GOP people can give me their song and dance about KKK dudes in my party, I won't stop them.

At the end of the day, I don't have anything in common with a social conservative. That's not going to magically change when I'm 30. When I'm 30, I'm not going to magically become homophobic and disdainful of science and education. I'm not going to think this planet is 6,000 years old.

I'm not going to think Obama was a Muslim born in Kenya. I'm not going to think that poor people on welfare should be deprived of the right to vote. I'm not going to give a crap if people say happy holidays or Merry Christmas.

I'm not going to blindly side with Israel regardless of any atrocities the government. I'm not going to rave about how nobody else has a sense of personal responsibility only to blame minorities and young people for why my party loses elections.

I gushed over Hilary and voted for her over Obama in the primary in 2007, within a year or two I felt dumb after seeing how good Obama was and as time has gone on I have grown to dislike Hilary. I love Sanders though.

I disliked Clinton in the 2008 primaries when she refused to denounce the release (widely believed to be from someone in her campaign) of a picture of Obama in traditional Kenyan clothes that was clearly intended to stir up xenophobia. I don't think she was responsible (and I didn't think so at the time, either), but if there was a chance she had a loose canon in her campaign, it was her responsibility to denounce the clear intention. Instead, she was willing to benefit from racism (this was during the height of birther-ism) when it suited her. It showed a lack of character.

On the flip side, I was impressed with Sanders' response both to the Clinton email scandal and the DNC server leaks. That's character.

This is absolutely right. I don't know whether her campaign started it... I think less of her for perpetuating it... I have very low opinion, indeed, of anyone still pushing it, today.

The first example of this kind of thing I was conscious of was Kerry being called a flip-flopper in 2004: I couldn't understand why people were repeating it as though it were gospel-truth, and weren't embarrassed for themselves upon hearing a refutation. Coming to terms with that has helped me grasp politics in a democracy.

I could've done myself a huge favor not logging into this forum today.

Again, as the anger takes over, I have to tell myself this: after their election defeat, Republicans are going to spend countless forums debating why they could barely get any vote that wasn't from a white Christian heterosexual as usual.

And as usual, instead of "we probably said something that ticked off demographic X, Y, and Z" it's going to be more along the lines of "Democrats trick those demographics into thinking that we are bigots when a guy stands up in front of Trump and says 'Muslims are the problem'."

Hello everyone. Well, I am not part of the Democratic Party per say. I lean more toward the Green Party in politics, so I am definitely not a conservative. I am liberal in politics. I could never hold to the same political platform as Republicans. I did not see a thread for the Green Party, so I thought I would step in here and say hello.
