  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

In addition to these, I have met and for, lowed Tony Compollo for years. He is a Baptist minister in Philly.

Tony Campolo | The positive prophet of Red Letter Christianity.
Never heard Tony Campolo before, so I clicked through to sermons,
Classic Sermons | Tony Campolo
And chose an interesting title:
"The Kingdom of God is a Party"

The beginning few minutes are encouraging. I'm still listening, so too soon to conclude, but I love it when I hear preaching like this:

"....The Kingdom of God begins when you yourself become totally surrendered to Jesus Christ. For the Kingdom of God is wherever God rules, wherever God is in control, there is His Kingdom. The question is: Does He rule in your life? Does He rule within you?...."

And

".... Very often people say to me, 'I'm a Christian -- I believe in all the right stuff'....
If getting into Heaven was believing all the right stuff, then Satan would be saved...he believes in the resurrection, he believes in the virgin birth..."

Very nice interesting and encouraging start. Makes me feel it can be worth listening to, which is a pretty high standard lately, because that means competing for only a few sermons I bother to listen to, from among some of the best preachers I can find, so it's not easy to be worth listening to in that regard for me.

Wow, what an interesting moment for (world famous mathematician, one of the top few in history) Pascal that comes next!!

"...fire, joy!, fire!, joy!, fire!, joy!..."

???

IMO, Biden is by far the best candidate against Trump. He has the best chance of preventing 4 more years of insanity.

If the Democratic chooses to nominate a candidate that is much less likely to beat Trump (less viable), I would vote for the Democratic candidate (any of the top 10).

HOW SHOULD WE VOTE IN THE PRIMARIES
Should someone vote for the candidate they like best, who best fits their views? Or should voters vote for the candidate that is most likely to beat Trump? If there is more than one candidate that is likely to beat Trump, and the probabilities are close, then we have more than one choice.

However, it may be that by January (when we start voting) that one candidate is much more likely to defeat Trump. We should ALL support that candidate. And yes, I am open to the possibility that Warren , Booker or even Budigieg could be that candidate (instead of Biden). More likely, in January, the future will be muddled and perhaps the top 5 will be all very likely to beat Trump.

I’ve never understood that logic. Not voting for someone because they’re not ‘viable’ but then voting for them because other people are. Bizarre.

wow, what a sermon. That was totally worth listening to even if a person was limited to just a few sermons in a whole year. Why did you hide this gem? ;-) (just kidding, since you didn't hide it) I think this particular sermon is worth telling more people about, so I just did. So encouraging, in addition to being so good, and helpful.

How's this for an OP for a primary thread?

"This is a thread for monitoring and discussing the 2020 Democratic Primaries. Here we can post updates from the campaigns, polls, debates, town halls, speeches and articles by or about the candidates, and anything else of relevance between now and the convention next July.

We can be as serious or as silly as we want, but let's please remember to keep it civil.

I'll get us rolling [Insert Current Events Here]."

I like the idea there, though this special thread explicitly labeled "Democratic Safe House" encourages more friendly respect to Democrats, which may be...more preferred?

Perhaps you could label the thread that way, if you want, even call it something like "Democratic Safe House Primaries Thread" (or some other title suggestive of the intent for it not to be a 'liberal vs conservative' thread), and put some clear wording that the thread is meant for only friendly discussion with Democrats and those who are friends to Democrats, or similar such.

Okay, how about this:

We can be as serious or as silly as we want, but let's please remember to keep it civil. This is a thread for constructive, critical discussion. No rants about social issues you dislike, no fear mongering, no using "deranged socialist" as a slur unless you're talking about Bernie Sander's hair. If you find yourself going on and on against another poster and the rest of the thread tells you guys to drop it, then drop it. I'd rather not have to ask a mod to close a thread because we couldn't self police.

I'll get us rolling [Insert Current Events Here]."

I would like to ask a question specifically in this thread because it's separate from the political rhetoric in the main forum. My question is: Did Donald Trump actually talk about nuking hurricanes?
Not publically. It appears he did in several meetings in the White House, but he of course denies it. Axios, the media outlet who reported it got their info from unnamed sources, so it's not really possible to confirm.

I can start the thread if you wish and add the warning that those violating the rules will be thread banned.

Borrowing from above:

Those who start bickering fights, or posting off topic and are violating the site rules will likely be thread banned.
Then it will be up to you all to post in it.

Also, the White House spokesman did not deny it happened - rather, they spun it as "The intention of preventing hurricane damage is a good one". It seems very likely to be true.
