In my usual online searching I came across some jerk who asked about things which were proven wrong in the Bible. He quoted Joshua 10:12 with the interpretation that they thought the sun went around the earth.
The irony is that my grandfather has been looking for this passage concerning the day the sun stood still, and this man who was miraculously blinded by his own atheistic preconceptions lead me to it. You've really got to appreciate God's sense of humor when he causes the atheist to prove something of God.
The Day the Sun Stood Still--Joshua's Long Day ....Page 35
Joshua 10:12-13 "Then spoke Joshua on the day the lord delivered up the amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, sun stand thou still upon gibean; and thou, moon, in the valley of ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day."
One can see where the description of the sun going down is according to our perceptions, but the lord knows better, of course. Miracles do happen.
And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel....Joshua 10
Furthermore, the Lord knew, even back then, there would be no day like it ever again. I wonder if the lord knew it would one day be used to shame his accusers.

In an atom, a planet goes around its sun millions of times in a second. It may go through billions or rotations, or atomic years, without changing its orbit. But then the atom absorbs a bit of energy and the electron moves to a higher orbit where its year is longer; or the atom emits a bit of energy and the electron drops to an orbit nearer the nucleus and its year becomes shorter.
On the grander scale of the solar system, centuries or even millenniums may pass between a corresponding event there and its recurrence.

Once the author’s idea is understood -- that the violent and cataclysmic changes on a miniature scale within the core of an atom have been enacted on a grand but equally sudden scale in the universe of suns, planets and comets -- light begins to shine on some old and stubborn mysteries.
