  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A few friends have tried this and I've heard good and not bad things but just "it was tough" things about this fast. Here's what some of the "About Me" says:

The Daniel Fast is a 21-day partial fast based upon Daniel's own experiences as recorded in the Bible. The purpose is to restrict commonly enjoyed foods as an act of worship and consecration to God. Someone who chooses to undergo a Daniel Fast demonstrates a physical commitment that reflects a deep spiritual desire for a more intimate relationship with the Lord.

Ultimate Daniel Fast: What is a Daniel Fast? is the link that tells what the Daniel Fast is all about.

Basically in a nut shell, it talks about how Daniel in the Bible went on a fast for 21 days and ate plain and simple things.

Under "Food Guidelines" you'll see things you can eat, and things you can't.

Things you can eat is basically fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans, nuts & seeds, oils, herbs & spices, and water. lol

Things you can't eat is meats/poultry of any kind, all dairy products, sweetners, solid fats (butter, margerine, etc..), deep fried foods, alcohol, sodas, any kind of tea or coffee.

So here's my questions to y'all.

Have you tried this fast? What did you think of it? How did you feel afterwards and did you lose weight?

For those who haven't, would you? Why/why not?

Attaching an anonymous poll for those who just want to answer yes/no.

I haven't done that one. I was brought up to absolute fasts and am only now starting to understand partial fasts.
For those who haven't, would you? Why/why not?

I might do it at some point this year to get an experience of longer fast and because I get the feeling that doing it will increase my ability to focus on God throughout the year. Shorter absolute fasts get me focused on Him as well but I imagine a longer fast would help in making the focus a more permanent part of my life.

How many blessings do we get for voting? I'm still awaiting my blessings for a mod suggestion.

Apparently I have, without even knowing it, although IIRC I did eat meat - just not much and not processed luncheon meat. Otherwise its pretty much the same diet. I wasn't on it very long, it was basically a means to determine food sensitivities rather than any religious type of thing.

So I did not lose any weight. And all I really remember about how i felt (this was several years ago), was how it hurt when I started introducing something back into my diet that triggered flareups.

I've been toying with the idea of doing that again. it is a challenge though.

My parents follow this diet and recently my mother reported that both their cholesterol is way down and they are both off all their medications. They are also part of a group affiliated with the SDA church where a number of people have cured their insulin dependent diabetes by eating this diet.

In a nutshell - the diet is vegan - as you described - but not just vegan - it's a whole-food/natural only vegan diet.

On day 9 and was planning on 10 days but will continue 4 more. We'll see. The first week was tough and very tired. This is not the first time doing it, I've done 21 days once and at other times 1-2 days since 2009. Praying for some major breakthroughs in my life and some others lives I've been in prayer for.
