LOL! You're smarter than I am...I actually paid hard earned cash for this book! ROFL!!!!

But hey, it's all a learning process...a friend read it and raved so I thought okay, give it a shot...but really I do hope that you don't spend any squid on it.
If you like religious fiction, though, I have two excellent recommendations:
Both are by Leon Uris:
Trinity (a lot of interesting background on the Northern Ireland religious issues)
The Haj (some really good, fun reading about "why, what, where, who, how" in the Middle East.

For more scholarly stuff, of course you'd want to look elsewhere, but these two are just fun "religious" reading...happy browsing at B&N!

I bought this book on a hunch and i started reading it that night. I couldn't put it down. I finished it the next day and immediatly went out to buy Angels and Demons. I cant wait to read this. There are several controversial topics in the book, but as a whole it is an awesome work of fiction.

The Da Vinci Code is, in my opinion, an amazing work of literacy. Everything he wrote is true, whether you believe it or not. All the facts are right in front of your nose, and Da Vinci truly believed in what he did (I won't spoil the book for anybody...). It's just like Buddhist and Muslims and all other non-Christian religions, they all believe in their faith just as strong as they do, but they don't have solid facts to back their faiths up. Da Vinci didn't either, but he tried to prove it through his art. Dan Brown just took a controversial subject and wrote a great book about true facts, whether you believe them or not.
I highly reccomend both Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code.

However, most art historians believe that Da Vincci did not try to prove or place these clues or hints in his art work.

The author admits that it is not true. Religous scholars both Catholic and Protestant, liberal and conservative don't consider this book worthy of study. This is fiction.

The Da Vinci Code is ridiculous fiction that is being presented and accepted as history. I highly recommend this article:
http://www.crisismagazine.com/september2003/feature1.htm

I just shreds the absurd claims of this book. Normally, i wouldn't get so worked about fiction, but unfortunately this piece of fiction is being used to attack Christ's Church..

Blessings,

I have read Angels & Demons and the impression I get is that the author does a lot of research into people, places, organizations, and events but his actual novel is fiction. His research makes the novel APPEAR real but that is just good writing. ;)

It does amaze me that people would think his novels were real. That is like thinking The Matrix really exists. ^_^ In metaphor form the idea works but there really is no machine world having us hooked up in pods and plugged into a virtual reality. In that sense the Matrix is just fiction. I figure same is true for Dan Brown's books.

The people who think the Da Vincci Code is real will just love Angels & Demons. I can see them now trying to track down the .......... can't spoil the book for you .;)

People want the Da Vinci Code to be real, that's the difference. There is nothing people like more than to see the Church painted as an evil, lying, oppressive institution.

This is so true!

I had a family member quote one fictitious movie and one fictitious book as fact when the information was demeaning to the Roman Catholic Church. I asked why and they would do that and they felt embarrased that I knew their information was unreliable. I wonder how many people are duped because of their refusal to think critically?

For some good information on the facts proposed in this book you might want to check out "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" by Baigent, Lincoln, and Leigh or "The Messianic Legacy" by the same authors. I havent read them, but I checked them out after reading this book--looked a little boring though for my tastes.

Blessings,

And well there are Christians who feel the same way about things they think are evil they know nothinga bout either. ^_^ They are just as quick to find the fault and pass the judgement.
