• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Our Echelon,
I am sorry to say my friend, but I for one don't think you ever fully recover. You become like an alcoholic, counting the days that you've been free of it, but one taste, and it can send you into a downward spiral so fast it can make you sick.
I was in therapy for a brief time. I made alot of progress in a short time. Our point of focus...my porn addiction (though thats not what I was there for, it seemed that the porn was causing the other problem).
I watched my first porno at the age of 11. Lost my virginity at 14. Lost my first wife of 10 years to it. You name it, I have seen it on the net. Some things so nasty and vile I almost puked!
There is hope, though!!! I swear that there is.
First off, you have to block your computer from being able to view it. I have excellent advice on how to do it. Just send me a PM, and I'll be more than happy to share it with you.
Second, get help. I strongly suggest going to:
http://www.settingcaptivesfree.com . Take the Purity course. It's free...it's scriptural, and it's gonna slap you in the face (in a very good way though, I promise).
Another thing to keep in mind is this: In order for visions to remain in our mind, we have to continually feed them. If we keep thinking about certian things, the never passages will remain open and alive. Our brain will actually allow nerve cells that we don't use to wither and die, so that new ones can form. Want proof? Tell me what you had to eat for breakfast when you were 7 years and 255 days old? Certainly, your brain stored the information. Information is stored every 1/1000 of a second in our brain (don't quote me on that exact number...I believe that's what it is though). But, you cannot remember that information, because you stopeed retrieving it years ago. It has vanished from your ability to retrieve it.
As time goes on, the pictures of porn in my head are becomming harder and hard to recall. I am doing my darndest to not put new ones in there (though a woman walking down the street in tight jeans still seems to stick).
It is an on going process. One that you will however, be victorious over!!!
Just be prepared...it is a war. You are going to experience defeat at times. It may even be the hardest thing you've ever engaged in (it is for me). But, with the Lord, you will be victorious!!! vbmenu_register("postmenu_21395443", true);

Break free from it, and once you do, repress the memory. Before repressing the memory, teach yourself that the imagery is horrifically disgusting. That way, if such images do pop up in active memory, you'll freak out and repress them again. Walla, problem solved. Let me know if you need help in more detail. :thumbsup:

Repression is not the answer.

The Bible says to hold each thought captive. We are transformed by the renewing of our minds, and that is accomplished by studying His Word and by spending time with Him. Dwell not on evil things, but on holy and righteous ones. If a memory or thought returns that does not honor God, recognize it as being of the flesh, and give it to God. Don't dwell on it. Sin gives birth in the mind. The more you focus on Him, the easier it will be.
