Matthew 24:15-44 refers to the coming of the Son of Man. When will he be here? He will be here after the Desolation spoken of in Verses 15-28. When will the Desolation be? According to Daniel 12:7, “... it would be for a time, times, and half a time...” How long is that duration? Some commentators say that the unit of time here is 360 years. So, two of these is 720 years, and half is 180 years. Add 360, 720 and 180, and you get 1,260 years. But 1,260 years has already passed since those words found their way to the Bible, so the question is,1,260 years from what? Verse 7 suggests it is from when the end of the “holy people” begins.
Some commentators infer that the existence of the holy people will end when they are all ‘converted.’ In a sense, these passages gives us a sort of weather forecast. We have 1,260 years of conversion of the holy people, followed by the Desolation, followed by the coming of the son of man. It’s like forecasting a thunderstorm, followed by torrential rain, followed by the rising of the sun, or “son.” If you will.
Since there are still a lot of holy people among us who haven’t been converted yet, we are still in the midst of their transformation. Jesus infers in Matthew 24:32 that the fulfillment of their conversion will be like a branch of a fig tree becoming “tender and puts out its leaves...”
But one can see that the Desolation will take place in the future. What does Jesus say about the future? Jesus in Matthew 6:34 says, “...[D]o not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
But what is mankind in relation to Matthew 24:15-44? What is the possibility? The possibility may be that the sooner this conversion is complete, the sooner will be the desolation followed by the coming of the son of man, shining overall. How can that be accomplished? Well, spreading the Word is a goof first step. Next, the people who preach the Word, and those who learn what the Word is and who claim to live by the Word, must act on the Word so that others may see that the Word can be good for themselves. But with all the destructive wars we have, based on things that have not been resolved, mostly because of ignorance, there is a lot of work to do to convince others that the Word is indeed good for all.
