The popes against the revolution

The Church has consistently condemned doctrinaire laissez-faire forms of capitalism and insisted on just wages, moderate state intervention in the economy, and the grave duty of the rich to assist the poor. Everyone knows these things because they are frequently talked about, and rightly so. But the Church has also consistently and vigorously opposed socialism in all its forms and all left-wing revolutionary movements, for reasons grounded in natural law and Christian moral theology. This is less frequently talked about, but especially important today, when much of what is being done or called for in the name of justice is in fact gravely immoral.
Quod Apostolici Muneris 1)
[T]he most disastrous national upheavals are threatening us from the growing power of the socialistic movement. They have insidiously worked their way into the very heart of the community, and in the darkness of their secret gatherings, and in the open light of day, in their writings and their harangues, they are urging the masses onward to sedition; they fling aside religious discipline; they scorn duties; they clamor only for rights; they are working incessantly on the multitudes of the needy which daily grow greater, and which, because of their poverty are easily deluded and led into error...

I wonder why Pope John Paul II had removed from the Code of Canon law's list of automatic excommunications, anyone who "gave aid and comfort to the Communist Party"? I did not even know that such had been removed, until I did a little research and discovered this fact a few years ago.

Giving materially can actually erode the Communist party's propaganda. Example: South Koreans sending goods via slingshots such as fresh pairs of socks over to the North Korean side of the DMZ. I would hope it is to protect Catholics who fought Communism with showing kindness.

Good question. But...

This.

Communist countries have always been dependent upon legit nations who know what they're doing and can actually produce stuff. So charity, in this case, is both a moral good and anti-communist propaganda. Everybody likes a two-for-one, right?

Well, humans without God, without Christ, are "lost", even those where we can't see the mistakes yet (so not only the 'socialists' but every last other grouping too). So, while sure we like this article in the quote will sometimes point to mistake A or mistake B, mistake C or mistake D....mistake N3, mistake Z21....in the end, they most need the way the truth and the life. Can we really help those in mistake D2 by saying D2 is a mistake?

But we do have instead the real answer. :)
