I didn't vote, but I will give my opinion...my pastor made an interesting observation a while back on this topic. He said that God rested on the seventh day, also that it was part of the Torah that the Jews had to rest once a week; and then he went on to make an observation I found interesting. He said that he had read somewhere that scientists had been doing studies on people's sleeping habits and rest patterns and had come to the conclusion that after 6 days, people need to take a break from things(work etc) and take a day of "rest" so that the body could rejuvenate. That for some 'reason', the body was on some sort of 6 days on 1 day off cycle, and that if people did not take a day to rest and not work, that it would actually cause physical problems. I thought that was most interesting. My pastor went on to say that it really didn't matter what 'day' we did the rest on, just as long as we took one day a week and dedicated it to the Lord by resting and reflecting, etc. Sunday seems to be the easy day to do this, because of tradition.
I thought it made a lot of sense. I can't see how it HAS to be Sunday, or even Saturday because it seems to me that that's putting works back into play, and making what WE do more important than what God's doing in us. I don't know, I could be completely off on this one....anyhoo--my .02cents worth.....

Are Christians obligated to keep Sunday as the Sabbath. Keep in mind it is a part of the moral law. Please give scriptural reasons for your opinion.
Where do you find in Scripture that Sunday is the Sabbath day mentioned in the Moral Law?

Hi,

I believe that Christ has fufilled our Sabbath rest. We have entered into His rest being Born agan. I see the puritan Sabbath idea and revere it. The only Problem is that nobody can really keep it. Nobody could keep it perfectly before the cross and no body does after the cross. Who can really say in truth they keep the Sabbath Day without error? Most reformed folks I know that say they keep it, don't even come close. Christ fufilled that one for me. I do strive to keep Sunday pure as possible because it's in the 10 Commandments and they are not done away with. It's a sticky matter isn't it?

I don't think keeping it perfect was ever the point now or for the Puritans. You are right, we can never keep any of the law perfectly, thus the point of Christ's perfect life. I simply think that the believer has an obligation, from a thankful heart, for what Christ has accomplished on our behalf to respect all the moral law, and to abide by it to the best of his/her ability.

Rom 3:31
Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law

It doesn't?
  • Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. - Exodus 20:8-11(KJV)
God specifically says that the Sabbath is the seventh day. What is the seventh day of the week?

I tend to follow this as well. There are reasons I have been told of why we worship on Sundays and not Saturdays, etc but it is our heart that God is interested in.
