And it's May 11th, now. Today's chapter is Exodus 31: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2031&version=NIV

God bless you,
Grace

Have you noticed how many times in Exodus God has used the word "wise hearted"?

It's mentioned again in verse 6:

6 And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;

And in this last verse, the very last words, are beautifully glorious. These words on these tablets were "written with the finger of God":

18 And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

We skipped a day, didn't we? Time to move on to Chapter 32. Here's a link: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus 32&version=NIV

Regarding verses 1 and 2, what got into Aaron that he would do this?

1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.

I am really finding this trek through Exodus interesting. I never thought about the God of the Old Testament being merciful, but he really is. He gave the rainbow, He delivered the Israelites, now in Chapter 32 God listens to Moses' pleas for mercy and doesn't destroy His people.

Speaking of, I am reeling right now. I got a message from BCMom today saying that she's in the hospital and doing better but not up for posting the next day's chapter. The thing that surprises me is that for the last few days, I've actually remembered to post it. Wow... and that's not all. All day yesterday I felt led to pray for her, and it was that way this morning too.

I stand in awe of the mighty power of God.

Today's chapter is Exodus 33. Here's a link: Exodus 33 NIV - Then the LORD said to Moses, “Leave - Bible Gateway

I ask you to pray that BCMom will have a nice speedy recovery.

God bless you,
Grace

Re: Chapter 33, vs 3, God's presence departs from the people?

3 Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.

That's interesting about God departing from among them. I've always seen a clash between the idea that God is always with us and the idea that God is Holy and all powerful. How can a good God stand to always be with us? And how is He with us when we're sinning, and just watching... ? I have never reconciled the ideas and I'm not sure I ever will!

I also find it cool that Moses - the Holy man of the time - just wants to see the glory of God. It makes me look at things differently to think that this wise man was so in awe of God's glory. I find myself eager to get to Heaven and be close to that Glory.

i'm thinkin' that it was by God's mercy and grace that He was among them and present, but they rejected Him...it reminds me of the verse about God saying that He will not always strive with man, and also reminds me of when Jesus separates the goats and the sheep, and removes the tares from the wheat. They had seen time after time God's hand moving on their behalf and they STILL were stiff-necked and had no love for God in their heart.....God says throughout His Word that He will always have a "remnant" and maybe this is an example of God saving a "remnant" from all the Israelites.

Look at verse 5.....God actually STANDS there with Moses.

5 And the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.

in verse 2...i'm wondering does "holy day" mean it's a day of "worship"? It's separated from the other days....i'm wondering if it's a day where they offer up their hearts to the Lord on this specific day, as like a sacrifice?

2 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the Lord: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.

And here's a link to the 17th's chapter : https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2036&version=NLT

One thing I find interesting about this is how God gives very detailed descriptions for how to make the Tabernacle beautiful. I think some Protestant churches miss that idea of making a church beautiful. Some churches - Pentecostals and Baptists come to mind - seem to make their churches as plain as possible. I wonder if that insults God?

By the way, I'm not saying every church should be extravagantly beautiful to the point that all the congregant's money goes into looks. But that doesn't mean they should be ugly either... What do you think?

IMO, God cares what is in our hearts; if we worshipped God with all our hearts and soul in a tent, this would please Him.
God Bless
