Great joy as the new Jerusalem wall is dedicated

Nehemiah Chapter 11

The Jews cast lots and one family in ten were chosen to live in Jerusalem.
The other nine lived in villages around Jerusalem.

Nehemiah Chapter 12

Nehemiah organised a huge celebration to dedicate the new city wall around Jerusalem.

The Jews led by Ezra marched along the top of the city wall with songs, music, cymbals, harps and singers. The singers sang at the top of their voices.

There was great joy, and the noise that they made could be heard far and wide (Verse 42 and 43).

The Jews gave gifts to support the temple musicians, guards, Levites and priests (Verse 47).

Last Chapter of Nehemiah today

Nehemiah Chapter 13

The Law of Moses restricts who Jews are allowed to marry.

Nehemiah reminded the Jews that Solomon was led into sin by his foreign wives (Verse 26).

The Jews believed in tithing their income to the temple.

Nehemiah had to return to King Artaxerxes of Babylon to report what was being done in Jerusalem.

King Artaxerxes allowed Nehemiah to return to Jerusalem after making his report.

While Nehemiah was away the temple ran out of money and Nehemiah sorted this out on his return.

Nehemiah was cross that Jews were working and trading on the Sabbath.

Nehemiah closed the city gates on the Sabbath. Nehemiah put guards on the gates to halt any trading.

Nehemiah was 100% determined that the Sabbath would be strictly observed by all the Jews.

Brinny,

The number of views yesterday to Chapter a Day was 176.

This is our best day so far. The counter started Friday on 5,326.

The growing amount of interest in Chapter a Day is very encouraging.

Today is the last chapter of Nehemiah.

Tomorrow we start the wonderful Book of Esther.

THIS is an amaaaaazing account of a man of God in ACTION in a very practical and PHYSICAL way. It reminds me of when Jesus cleared the Temple with a whip and when he overturned tables, etc.

He got things right in the Temple real quick.

Amen.

Brinny,

Yes it was Nehemiah that brought back some semblance of order to life in Jerusalem after the return of the Jews from captivity in Babylon.

Brinny,

So we have now come to the end of Nehemiah. I have learned a lot from reading this book. Nehemiah is not a book that gets read in the churches very often.

I have learned that Nehemiah is the man that brought law and order back to the Jews in Jerusalem after leaving Babylon.

I am very much looking forward to studying the wonderful book of Esther.

The wonderful book of Esther

Chapter 1

King Xerxes was the ruler over the vast Persian Empire. He controlled Jerusalem and all the countries in between as far as India.

King Xerxes decided to give a huge banquet for the men of their capital city.

Absolutely no expense was spared, and even the cups were made of gold.

Queen Vashti gave a banquet for the women in the palace.

Queen Vashti was beautiful and King Xerxes wanted to show off his wife dressed in her crown and fine clothes. He wanted to impress his officials and guests.

King Xerxes sent for Queen Vashti but she refused to come. This was much to the annoyance of the king.

King Xerxes asked his legal advisers to think up a suitable punishment for Queen Vashti.

They came up with the idea that she should banished from the presence of King Xerxes for ever and that another queen should be chosen to take her place.

So this is exactly what King Xerxes did.

His officials then began a careful search to find a beautiful new wife for King Xerxes.

She shamed the king in front of everyone and defied him openly. She needed to count her blessings that he didn't put her to death for insulting and belittling him so blatantly.

He was very kind and gracious to not put her to death.

Brinny,

Yes. What was Queen Vashti thinking to insult King Xerxes in this way, and she was very lucky that her punishment was not worse and even death. for making her king look foolish in front of all his important guests.

King Xerxes begins his search for a replacement for Queen Vashti

Esther Chapter 2

King Xerxes was to pick his new queen from among all the most beautiful young virgins in the land.

Esther was picked as a possible. Esther lived with her cousin Mordecai, who had brought her up as a child, after the death of her parents.

Mordecai advised Esther not to say that she was a Jew.

Eunuch Hegai was in charge of the king’s harem. Hegai took a liking to Esther. Hegai gave especially good treatment to Esther because she had won his favour. Hegai advised Esther what to wear when it was her turn to be presented to King Xerxes.

Because of the extra help from Hagai the king liked Esther more than any of the others, and she won the king’s favour and affection.

King Xerxes placed a crown on the head of Esther and gave a great banquet and proclaimed a holiday for the whole Persian Empire.

Mordecai

Mordecai was appointed to an administrative post in the service of King Xerxes.

Mordecai became aware of an assassination plot by two eunuchs guarding the king’s rooms.

Mordecai told Queen Esther, and she told King Xerxes.

A full investigation was carried out, resulting in the two eunuchs being hanged.

The quick action by Mordecai had saved the king’s life.

King Xerxes made a full written account of this failed assassination attempt in the records of the Persian Empire.

THIS is just AWESOME. It's like you can see God's very hand at work on behalf of Esther AND Mordecai in all of this. Esther had much favor with EVERYONE, including the king, for she won his heart to the point that he made her queen, and then look how God mooooves on behalf of Mordecai, as he does what will gain him GREAT favor with the king as well. He saves the very life of the king and proves himself to be a loyal and invaluable subject of the king, and was written down for all to see. This was like God stamping His favor on Mordecai, all legal-like.
