Just 2 verses, right?

(Of course, the verse divisions are not inspired.)

yes just 2 verses.....

what does that mean, that the verse divisions are not inspired?

The verse numbers were put in centuries afterwards, for convenience.

even that was possibly inspired.....

it is written that our God is not a God of confusion :)

In the sense of general guidance, maybe, rather than direct inspiration by the Spirit of God. (I would find it hard to believe for example that in the over 1000 years of the Bible's existence after the life on earth of the Lord Jesus the Bible was not complete because the verse divisions weren't there.)

The way the translations put in their sentences and paragraphs is actually quite diverse from one version to another. On the one hand it's good to be readable; on the other it's good to preserve the flow of thought in the original as far as is reasonably possible.

Do you remember the edition of the Geneva Bible that you have?

no, i have it in a box, and i gotta get the rest of my books out and put them on the shelf.....

but the Geneva Bible is the only verses about Jabez that mesh with his standing before the God of Israel Whom, he prayed to, and God's description of Jabez, and more accurately words Jabez's prayer to the God of Israel.

Psalm 125 has only 5 verses. Wow, powerful in God's graciousness. Precious verses!

Look at verse 2:

"As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever."

Here, God says that He SURROUNDS His people, FOREVER. Now when He says His people here, He means certainly His chosen people, who were facing enemies on every side, but He also means "us" for WE are "His people" as well. This was written not only for His people at that time, but it was written for "us" as well.

Another precious verse is this one, verse 3:

"For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity."

Here God is saying that His people will not have to endure wickedness and evil towards them, past what they are able to bear, but He will remove it, lest out of sheer desperation His people sin because of it.

Reminds me of this verse:

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God isfaithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able ; but will with thetemptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." ~1 Corinthians 10:13

How gracious is THAT??!!

Precious.

Psalm 126 has only 6 verses, but how powerfully delightful they are! There's jubilant celebration going on here....celebrating a precious God Who "turned their captivity"....How GLORIOUS is THAT??!!!

Reminds me of the verse in the book of Job, where it is written that God "turned the captivity of Job".

"And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before." ~Job 42:10

Precious.

 Wow, Psalm 127 has only 5 verses. BUT how powerfully they send a riveting spiritual punch, so to speak, in that it's about children being precious gifts (and a legacy) from God. It is tragic that these precious gifts (legacies) from God are seen as "enemies", "vermin" to be "exterminated".

God help us, we are soooo blind.

What a tragic mess we are in.

Forgive us.

Again, only 6 verses in Psalm 128, yet, there are powerful blessings within these 6 verses. There are promises of long life, even to seeing one's children's children, and being blessed with extraordinary favor if one "fears the Lord".

How precious is THAT??!!

1 Chronicles Chapter.28

King David could not build the temple because he had been a man of war and had shed blood. Verse 3

I thought about this scripture the other day. I wonder how voting for politicians (men of war) may hinder our own inner temple building efforts.

Psalm 129 has 8 verses, and they highlight God, and that He rescues and sets free those who love Him.

And evil does not prevail.

Praise His name.

That is GOOD news, is it not?

Psalms 130, also not long, one of the songs for those ascending to the Temple in Jerusalem from David, expresses longing for Yahweh God, who we really need in our lives, and if we knew, we would not want to be without.

If you, Yahweh, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with you, therefore you are feared.
I wait for Yahweh. My soul waits. I hope in his word.
My soul longs for the Lord more than watchmen long for the morning; more than watchmen for the morning.
Israel, hope in Yahweh, for with Yahweh there is loving kindness. With him is abundant redemption.
He will redeem Israel from all their sins.

No one could stand before Yahweh and his righteousness with their own righteousness, with that one faces judgment. But Yahweh is not willing that any should perish that way, and provides opportunity to come to redemption, for any, made possible through Christ, and with showing his forgiveness relationship with God, which we need, is provided. And we may wait patiently for Yahweh and what he does, rightly, with our hope. Those who stay outside through the night, in the cold, as watchmen do, long very much for the coming morning. Yet Yahweh is the one we can long for in our lives with seeing fruits of the relationship more than that.

And in this psalm with call to hope in Yahweh this way, even to people of Israel, is this promise tucked in there that the remnant from them one day will all have that redemption, that made possible from Christ, the promised Messiah.

Psalms 131 was also for singing in approaching the Temple.

Yahweh, my heart isn't haughty, nor my eyes lofty; nor do I concern myself with great matters, or things too wonderful for me.
Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.
Israel, hope in Yahweh, from this time forth and forevermore.

It is the ideal, to come only humbly to Yahweh our God, this humility is the true meaning of modesty in the Bible, not some dress code. The image of a weaned child, who with the mother doesn't cry for any need felt, but is truly comforted, is showing us well what we can have coming to Yahweh with the relationship we would have. And Israel again is called to all collectively put trust and hope in Yahweh, which is yet coming, as it was promised, through recognition of the promised Messiah.
