Yahweh gives promises, and does not take them back from his people.

Psalms 108
Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake right early.
I will give thanks unto you, O Yahweh, among the peoples; And I will sing praises unto you among the nations.

Though Yahweh permits great hardship for them, it is with real purpose, and he delivers his redeemed. We indeed should be quick to give praise.

Psalm 109 speaks of the wicked rewarding evil for good and their deceitfulness and lying against the righteous. In this Psalm the righteous cry out to God in their time of trouble.

And God hears them.

Reminds me of what i read in Proverbs 21 today, verse 13: "Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard." What this indicates to me, is that when someone does abominably and especially does evil, especially in returning evil for good, and turning a deaf ear blatantly to the cries of the suffering, the poor, the hungry, etc. all of their evil thoughts, words, and deeds will come to fruition, bearing evil fruit, and condemn them. Their own cries will not be heard. They will reap what they sow.

Reminds me of the part of the story in A Christmas Carol, where Scrooge sees his own, forlorn, and abandoned and obscure grave stone, where no one missed him or even thought of him. He had reaped what he had sown.

Forgotten, not loved or missed, and obscure.

Forever.

Psalm 110 is a SHORT Psalm, only 7 verses, but very powerful. Look how it starts off...

in verse 1 it says that "the LORD said unto my Lord"...this is deeply profound, in that there is depth of meaning with the one "LORD" being all capitalized and the second "Lord" not in all capitals...to me it indicates that God the FAther is speaking to His "right Hand", and that would be Jesus, His only begotten Son.....

"The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool."

now notice, that God the Father says to Jesus, His only begotten Son, to "sit".....this indicates that Jesus was NOT sitting at the time this was said....it also quite possibly indicates that when Jesus "sits" at God the Father's "right hand" all is played out as it is written, according to His Word, since Jesus' enemies have not become His "footstool" completely as of yet...

as if it is speaking of the time when Jesus appears again, and this time as Conqueror and Judge, and ALL will bow (His enemies included)...now this does not mean that when His "enemies bow" that they worship and adore Him, they are just obliged to "bow" before Him and speak the truth of Who He is, and acknowledge Him as such, the same as the demons have done. Therefore ALL over the face of the earth will bow before Him, enemies and His own alike, but for very different reasons.

Nevertheless, ALL will bow, just as it is written.

Psalm 111, another short Psalm, only 10 verses, yet powerful.

For instance in verse 1:

"Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation."

it emphasizes praising the Lord with one's whole heart, and what it seems to indicate is that is what helps define the "assembly of the upright". Precious.

Then in verse 10, the "fear of the Lord" is emphasized...this is emphasized all throughout the Bible that this is precious to God:

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever."

Psalm 112 is ASTOUNDING and chock full of promises of blessings and favor that are not just temporary, but everlasting and extend even to the righteous one's generations, forever.

These verses really stood out for me (actually the entire chapter did, but these, especially):

1 Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
5 A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.
6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.

And notice verse 7. It is hope and promise and good things, even as evil tidings attempt to flood his ears and heart and mind, for he trusts in God, and he is "fixed", "anchored" and "im-movable" by ANY of this evil news all around him.

Reminds me of these verses in Psalm 46:

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

Then there's Psalm 46:10

Be still, and know that I am God:

Precious.

Psalm 113 is short, only 9 verses, but how powerfully DELIGHTFUL they are!

Lert's take a gander at verse 7, that kinda' stood out for me:

"He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;"

Now this brought right to mind someone who is very near and dear to my heart ---> Job.

Job was in the dust and on that dung hill, dejected, rejected, and forlorn, it seemed by both man (even his wife and friends, and God). He was sick unto death and enduring the flaming arrows of false accusations and horrific
ripping into his very character and soul and heart by his "friends". It seemed there was not a soul to encourage, or even to "pray" for him. He was alone and was surely gonna die, as God seemed to remain silent.

But now let's go to verse 8:

"That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people."

In God's perfect timing, He DID raise Job out of the dust and lifted him OUT of the dung hill.

And THEN, set him with princes. God restored over and above that which was taken/destroyed by Satan.

Reminds me also of Jabez (but that's another story)

Then there's verse 9:

"He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD."

This reminds of precious verses of promise in Isaiah:

1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;
3 For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.
4 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.
5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
6 For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.
7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.
8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.

God gathers together as His own the dejected, forlorn, and seemingly forgotten and gives them a heritage and a fruitful bounty. There will be children where it seemed impossible before, and provision, and grace, and joy, and blessings and favor abounding.

He is a GOOD God, is He not?

Psalm 114 is even shorter, only 8 verses, and is a reminder of how God brought the people of Israel out of Egypt and saved them from their captors.

This precious song reminds me of that time, and how it must've been for Moses, standing at the edge of the Red Sea before him, and the Pharaoh's army closing in from the rear, and how God MOOOOOVED! He is a GOOD God!

Precious.

Psalm 115 is glorious, all 18 verses. The theme is how those who "fear" the Lord (a Godly respect and recognition of His holiness) will be blessed, for God delights in,. protects, defends, and blesses those who "fear" Him and their children, and the generations after them.

Precious.

Psalm 116 speaks of how gloriously our God pulls us from treacherous danger, and how He HEARS us when we call out to Him. In our very DIRE times of sure trouble and danger He is our faithful Protector, Defender, and literally our "Life Preserver", for He keeps us afloat, and amongst the living, as is emphasized in verses 8 and 9:

"For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living."

How wonderfully glorious is THAT?

Soooo i had to do a double take hahaaaa!

Psalm 117 is possibly the shortest chapter in the Bible....it's 2 verses long.

Here it is:

1 O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.
2 For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.

It's praise!!

And i say Amen!!!

There's a verse that stands out for me in Psalm 118, that is a powerful declaration of trusting God and believing His promises and having faith that God CAN and WILL and CHOOSES to keep His promises, ALWAYS.

And a riveting promise and declaration is in verse 17:

"I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD."

How GLORIOUS is THAT??!!

Psalm 119 has 176 verses. It's a glorious Psalm in that it is a pouring out of the Psalmist's heart to his God and without restraint. In these verses shines out his love for his God and his understanding of what it means to "fear" the Lord, for "fearing" the Lord is not possible without loving Him. Therein lies the wisdom of what it means in Proverbs 9:10 where it is written that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. The Psalmist delights in the holy-ness of his God and is in genuine "awe" of his gloriously holy and righteous and just God. And underneath it all he KNEW of his God's mercy and grace, which is inexplicably wondrous and demonstrates the essence of his God's heart towards him.

In the last 4 verses of the Psalm (173-176) he summarizes the GOODNESS of his God, and his utter DELIGHT in his God, Who DELIGHTS in the psalmist as well.

173 Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts.
174 I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.
175 Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me.
176 I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.

In it all, the Psalmist has a God Who REJOICES over him with SINGING:

(Is this delightful or WHAT?)

Psalm 120 has 7 verses. All of them quite powerful and profound. The Psalmist here cries out for help in extremely dire and desperate circumstances, confirming that his God is his ONLY Hope at this most desperate time. And his God HEARS him! All around are those who want nothing more than to obliterate the Psalmist and destroy him in any way possible. He is surrounded by those who seek his harm, and who are lying about him, and conspiring against him, and he's about sinking in it.

But THEN, he calls out to his God, a very PRESENT HELP in his time of trouble. And his God HEARS him.

How glorious is THAT?!

Reminds me of this verse i was pondering on earlier:

Psalm 121 has 8 verses, all chock full of promises and blessings. God promises to Keep all evil from us and to keep all that would harm us FAR from us.

Precious.

Psalm 122 has 9 verses, and David celebrates and rejoices at the thought of going to the House of the Lord. He LOVED God. He BLESSES Jerusalem and his brethren and companion's sakes He speaks peace over Jerusalem and all those who love Jerusalem for the sake of his God.

Precious.

Psalm 123 has only 4 verses, wow, short!

BUT each verse packs a powerful spiritual punch.

He is pleading to God on behalf of himself and his people. They are in dire straits and suffering exceedingly, seemingly without end. What even adds to it is that they are held in such contempt by their enemies who are scornfully proud and contemptuous of the suffering ones, and at ease which is such a dire contrast to the dire suffering of the Psalmist and his people.

He cries out to the God of Israel. There is NONE other Who can help them.

The bottom line is, they cannot bear it any longer. They are desperate to the nth degree and then some, for God to intervene.

He is their ONLY Hope.

Psalm 124 has only 8 verses, wow!

Each verse is powerfully full of thankfulness and praise to God for saving David and his people from the enemy.

This verse sums it up:

"Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth." ~Psalm 124:6
