Haman plans to kill all the Jews

Esther Chapter 3

King Xerxes promoted Haman to the post of Prime Minister and said that everyone should kneel and bow to Haman.

Mordecai was a Jew and said for this reason he had to refuse to bow to Haman.

Haman decided that if this was the case then the answer was to destroy all the Jews in the Persian Empire.

Haman told King Xerxes that the Jews did not obey Persian laws and that they have strange and unusual religious customs.

Haman also said that if the Jews were killed their wealth could go straight into the king’s treasury and the amount would be very substantial.

King Xerxes was persuaded that the Jews were a danger to the Persian Empire, and gave Haman his ring to be used to seal a government proclamation that all the Jews were to be killed on a given day, and their wealth confiscated.

This proclamation was circulated throughout the capital city, and also to all the provinces of the mighty Persian Empire.

So awesome that Esther became Queen! And that Mordecai saved the kings life

Miss Rowy,

It is nice to see you back. Hope you are feeling better.

Yes the Book of Esther is a wonderful love story. Some books of the Bible are very deep and hard to understand.
But the story of Esther is a simple story. Esther is very simple and easy to read.

Your return has helped push our viewing figures up to 192 for Sunday.

192 is our highest viewing figure so far for this thread for a single day.

The viewing counter started Monday on 5,759.

It is very encouraging that there is such a high level of interest in the Chapter a Day thread.

Mordecai asks Esther for help

Esther Chapter 4

Haman issues a proclamation that all Jews are to be killed and their property confiscated.

Mordecai cries wears sackcloth instead of clothes, and puts ashes on his head.

Jews all over the Persian Empire cry at the terrible news and put on sackcloth and ashes.

Esther sends her servant eunuch Hathach to find out what had upset Mordecai.

Mordecai gave eunuch Hathach a copy of the proclamation and sent him back to Esther with a message that she should plead with King Xerxes for mercy towards the Jews.

Esther was now faced with a problem. If anyone approached the king without being first invited the punishment was death.

Esther had not spoken to the king for a month. It might be too late by the time she got round to seeing the king again. Esther faced a possible life and death situation if she dared approach the king uninvited.

Esther told Mordecai that the only exception when King Xerxes holds out his golden sceptre towards that uninvited visitor then their life can be spared.

Mordecai replied that Esther would die anyway because she was a Jew and the proclamation stated that all Jews must be killed.

Mordecai suggested that it might have been God’s plan all along to make her queen so that she could save the Jews from this proclamation by Haman.

Esther suggested that the Jews should fast for three day and that she would do the same.

After three days she would then go to see King Xerxes, and if she has to die, then she has to die.

It was a risk that she had to take. She had no choice. There was no alternative.

Esther was a courageous woman. THIS sums up her brave, courageous heart:

16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.

Priceless.

Haman builds a gallows and plans to hang Mordecai on it.

Esther Chapter 5

After three days of fasting Esther went to see King Xerxes.

He holds out the golden sceptre and she touches it. This means she is welcome and safe.

Esther invites King Xerxes and Haman to a banquet. The king asks for her request.

But Esther says nothing but invites them both to another banquet the next day.

After the banquet Haman passed Mordecai in the palace.

Once again Mordecai refused to bow to Haman.

For Haman this was the last straw.

So Haman built a gallows and planed to hang Mordecai on it the next day.
