• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

  • The rule regarding AI content has been updated. The rule now rules as follows:

Be sure to credit AI when copying and pasting AI sources. Link to the site of the AI search, just like linking to an article.

To add to this excellent thread:

The highlights, or "lecture posts":

<snipped links>

Since the parent thread for all of those posts is already in the archive:

The systematic classification of life (Aron-Ra)

...and since you've already picked out particular links from it and listed them, it would be superfluous, for either reason, to include each of those links individually in the OP.

Although I made an exception once (reason being, the example involved a post in a thread that was like a new thread in itself when the thread changed direction), this is a thread archive, strictly speaking, rather than a post archive. The Quiet Thread serves more for that purpose (but that's really for uncontested arguments rather than lecture posts).

A post archive would be an arduous task to assemble, and a lot of examples would be redundant and it would be easier to just list the thread in which a number of good posts appear. It wouldn't be as much of a quick reference as a thread list. But your own list serves as a mini-archive for that thread, so that's good.

Just finished the monthy update to the archive. About 12 new threads added, and the top (non-voluntary :p ) contributors from this past month in terms of number of threads were Lucretius and grmorton.

Space is running out regarding how many characters are allowed per post, so I might have to start this over again if updates continue and space it out over a few posts at the start of the thread. I guess I didn't plan far enough ahead to accomodate updates.

As usual, corrections and suggested additions are welcomed.

RE: the character limit issue.

When I was doing a FAQ thread on another forum, I posted the first 10 replies so I could go back and edit new information into them if warrented later.

You could also ask the C & E mods if they can merge a post from another thread into a specific place in a pre-existing thread. Then you could just do another Archive OP, and ask for it to be merged in as post #2 of this thread.

The archive has been updated for the interval of May 26 - July 11.

There were about 25 new threads added from a variety of users seemingly representative of a great deal of the present regulars here who have made new threads in the past month and a half or so.

The only thread I reserved judgement on adding was:
Common ancestry: Assumption or conclusion (Tomk80)

I just wasn't sure if you were planning on revisiting that thread and adding your additional information, Tom, so if you're going to, I'd be happy to include it.

The usual deal: any additions, deletions, recategorizations, errors, etc. are welcomed, but if you have a suggested link to add, please supply the link as well.

Since it's really pushing the per post character limit at this point, it looks like I might have to start a new thread next time and reserve more posts at the beginning for the archive, so be prepared for a new home.
