Why is everyone complaining of pop lyrics? Have any of you listened to rock lyrics lately? Nickelback's lyrics are worse than any band out. Oh, and don't get me started on Puddle of Mudd.

Allow me to clarify. Melody isn't all that matters, but it is more important than any other facet of music. A song with only a good melody is weak, but a song without a melody is dead.

I wouldn't go that far, either. You're setting up standards for music that don't have to exist. What about a drum solo in a jazz composition? Shoot, what about an improvisational jazz composition in general? There's no real melody, but I would hardly call this piece of music "dead."

Hahaha there you go dismissing whole genres of music again. This time it's not even a rock subgenre. You think they're boring. But the fact that some people don't (including me, Miles Davis is the freakin' man) indicates that melody is not necessarily an essential component of good music.
